Hello everybody, I'm new here, this is my first message to the board.
I have a CD-ROM drive without use , so I would like to connect it to an external power supply font to use it like an audio cd player, but I don't know how to match the wires of the power connector of the CD-ROM with the wires of the power supply font. Can anybody help me?Thanks in advance.

Hello Razorz and Welcome,
I think what you're asking will be very difficult to do with favored results.

The power supply you are wanting to use must supply both +5V and +12V. The connection can be made by simply soldering the leads to the pins on the drive. Correct voltage to correct pin can be determined by looking at a typical computer Mulex connector. Red=+5V, Yello=+12V, Black=Ground.

After that, you must figure out how to get the output signal into whatever sound system you use. Since these drives are designed for data transmition, their connectors are quite specific, (IDE/SCSI, or sound card connector). The analog connection (small 2 wire connector) could probably be modified to an RCA plug. You have no ground built into this connection, only R/L, so you would need to establish that as well.
I would imagine if it has a headphone port, you could simply plug in headphones and listen to your tunes.

Good luck and let us know how it goes http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif
