OK Guys,
I have three computers connected to a hub in a star shape. Two PC's are ME and one is XP. One of the ME machines is connected to the internet via normal telephone line. The cabling is UTP CAT5. I have tried to follow the various tutotrials on various sites to get the machines to see each other and hopefully share files and the internet access. No luck.
Can you guys take me through the process from here.
Thanks. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hello Bharuchi and Welcome,
We would need to know what exactly you HAVE done, and what is NOT working about this setup. Please be as desriptive as possible.
ME is notorious for not always showing the other computers on the network. With my ME machine, I have to search for the other machines to find them. Kind of a pain, but once connection is established.....
Are you sure your cabling is "Patch" and not "Crossover"? You do not use Crossover when using a hub.
Let us know and we can go from there. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif

Master Bassman,
Thanks for the welcome.
All three machines have NIC's in fact I was advised to install 2 NICs in the main machine ie the one with internet connection as the second NIC would act as a router to my ISP (AOL)
The cable says "data cable UTP flex 4PR patchcable 7x0.2category 5" I presume this makes it a patch cable.
I have the hub in the middle with the cable going to all the machines.
I did try to look for the other machines via "My Network Places", "Entire Network".
Is there anything else you would want to know.
Many thanks again.

Ok Bharuchi,
We still need a little more info so I will give you a few questions to answer,
R-click the Network Places icon on the desktop,
What is listed in the "network components" window?
Have you allowed the "File and Print sharing" features?
Click the "Identification" tab,
Does each computer have a unique name?
Do all computers have the same "Workgroup" name?
Have you R-clicked and shared any resources on any of these machines?
I would recommend dbl-clicking the network icon and using the network wizard to set up the XP machine, allow it to make a setup disk for the other machines and use that.
Unless you are trying to learn how to configure TCP/IP and other things involved in a network, this will be the simplest way for you to set this up.
If network configuring is your goal, I would recommend a Google (http://www.google.com) search for network configuration, and be prepared to read your eyes raw http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
Good luck http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif
