Hi PC guru,

I was wondering if there is a good way to burn movies (.avi) to a CD rom. What I am trying to do is capture the movies on my Video Camera and burn them to a CD. So far the movies have been too big in lentgh to burn. What kind of format is better to do this? I heard that by encoding the movie to a different format you can burn a movie to a Cd without losing any of it's length.

Do you guys have any advise or information about this? I welcome any advice since I would really love to be able to save my Video camera movies to CD's rather then the old fashion video tapes.

Hi Sylvie,
it really depends on what software you are using. What formats it allows, what kind of compression it uses and soforth.
A blank CD with all the formating info should hold around 600Mb of data.
A fair quality 30 second clip will be around 360 Kb. I don't know what version of Windows media player you have, but here is the path to a sample movie they have included with Movie Maker for some time now. C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\TOUR\SHOWME.
Take a look at that and understand that a movie of the same quality, around 5 minutes long should take up about 4Mgb.
High quality with decent effects could easily run 1Mgb a minute.

Hope that helps http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif
