Check that you get a dial tone at the phone. Then check for dial tone at the modem. If the tone can be heard at the modem but not at the phone, then switch "phone" cables to verify that bad cables are not the problem. (I'll asume that you have already check that the phone itself is working)

If dial tone is getting thur but there's noise on the line you may need to replace the modem. Hopefully someone else will have some other ideas you can try.

hello Suraj,
Your explination of the wiring is a little unclear. I understand the language difference http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif You should have a wire from the wall plug to "Line In" on back of computer, then from "Line Out/Phone" on back of computer to phone.
If this is correct then I understand.

Do you have Fax software with this modem? If yes, then adjust the number of rings before answer, or turn it off when not using it.
The sounds you are hearing in the phone (called a handshake) could be caused by the Fax software answering before you do.
Let us know http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
