View Full Version : Gif Images
Hi All,
I'm working with multiple gif images in word 2000.
When I've finished my masterpiece I save it as a web page.
I can view it with animation on my system, but when I upload it to my ftp site all I get is a red x in a box. Any ideas where I'm going wrong.
Should I be using a different programme than word 2000, if so which one.
OS ME, IE6.
thanks,
kfh.
Have you uploaded the actual images to the website?
Are the names for the links correct..like href=www.yoursite.con/image.gif and not c:\my documents\image1.gif?

Hi mjc,
Yes it is the image, But it starts with mhtml:http//www. and ends .mht.
When I try to insert in here http:// It won't show anything but the address.
thanks,
kfh.
The last part of the link should be the image name and it should end with the type like .gif also the loacton should be a folder on your site not a reference to your hard drive....I wasn't trying to give a complete line of code, just an example. Also if you are trying to use your site to host a link to some place like here you need to make sure your site supports remote hosting of images...

Thanks mjc,
I've just had a cup of tea, And now I've got my head around it.
Had my thumb up my bum and my mind in neutral there for a while.
thanks,
kfh.

.mht files are archive web files and store the images with the html file (as one file).
You need to save your webpages with .htm at the end. You can then save each image seperate and upload accordingly.
Heres a structure to work with.
a) On your HD create a folder called "website"
b) In the folder create another folder called "images"
Now, you need to save all your .htm files in the "Website" folder and all the image files in "images" folder. Put the images in the folder before you actually insert them into the .htm file!
You may need to redo parts of your website (update links and such) but its better that a website is organised from the start - as things can get overly complicated later on!
Hope that helps a little!

If the above have not helped to stop the RedX from displaying then have a look at MSKB q283807 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q283807)
The RedX appearing instead of a picture is being widely reported in the IE6 Newsgroups. One of the problems is that it seems to be inconsistent and when this is the case it can often be corrected by altering the IE encoding.

I got the same results from IE 5.01 in win98se, and IE6 in winXP.
kfh- may be using a free server that does not condone hosting images, or he may have overstepped the size limitations on his account.
