View Full Version : Ip settings will not stay
I have an ADSL connection. Almost every time I try to access the net I have to run the WINIPCFG, release and renew the settings. Otherwise the default corridor (or whatever it is in English, i.e. the bottom one) is missing. How can I fix the problem?

Is windows set up to get its IP address from a dhcp server? If so, especially if you added the DSL connection to the PC afterwards (meaning you didn't install windows with the net connection hooked up) then windows is probably assigning your system a random ip address before the dhcp gives it one.
Then, once it has an ip, it won't accept the correct one from the dhcp. One way to solve this is to manually configure the IP, DNS and subnet mask settings, but since you ISP can change these from time to time you may end up being stuck at some point.
There is another way, which involves editing the registry. Check out these links for starters...
