Downloading game demos, installing them, and then playing them is pretty basic. If you're not doing it right then the game wouldn't be installed or playable at all, so it's probably not you. First thing that came to my mind is the all too common game problem: bugs!! I seem to remember a fleeting reference to this Drakan game, but other than that I know nothing about it. If not too many other people have heard of it, either, then you have a crappy game demo, which is worse than a crappy game.

Of course, being crappy isn't the only reason the demo won't work. On my system, for instance, I can't run the demo of Mech Commander 2, it freezes up because of some weird graphical incompatability. This isn't surprising since game companies put far less effort into demos than the actual game, and in many cases the demo is released first, before they get the chance to fix everything.

As to your other question about gamepads, compatability shouldn't be too much of a problem IF you're running Win 98 or later with at least one USB port available for a gamepad (or a standard game port but those have been around since before the Pentium).

But what the heck is in a Compaq 7470 or whatever? We need real specs such as your CPU type/speed, amount of RAM, flavor of Windows, graphics card, etc. Can't do nothin' with a Compaq model number, sorry.

most likly It's AMD K6-2,533Mhz,64MB 100MHz SyncDRAM,with W/98,Integrated 2x AGP 3D Graphics,if it's a stock machine thats usually what it will have.
up grade the memory a bit maybe think about a different card if this is what you have in it.

Thank you for your reply .I am sorry I couldn't be more specific about my PC but I am still in the learning stages and I didn't know the importance of those specifications to my query .I know the speed is 550 MHZ the virtual memory is 64 MBA RAM it has 32 bit graphics I have win 98 .It is indeed a stock computer there was nothing added to it because I will buy a better one as soon as I know more about them .
