I have a compaq Deskpro EP/SB series with a celeron 266. It is a Socket 370 processor with and adapter to a slot1 mobo. I bought a slot 1, P2 400 to put in and now I don't know if I can fit it on the mobo as the retainer doesn't look like it will fit. Also I see a set of dip switches on the mobo so I guess I would have to set them to run a faster processor. I went to compaqs website and am getting nowhere to get the info on this. I think someone swithched to a adapter later. They have no adequete info on this models mobo or dip swithches. It is a chassis serial# 6819BYVZP365. Any suggestions welcome
Thanks in advance.

The only adjustment you need to worry about is the bus speed...the multiplier is locked on the P2 with 100mhz fsb, so all you need to do is figure out which jumper controls the bus speed and go from there...
You probably could do it by trial and error. The board probably only supports 66 and 100mhz fsb speeds, so look for a dip switch with only two settings and that could be it...
Try it, boot up and see what the speed is (Start, Run, type dxdiag is the easiest way) and then if it's running at 266, change the switch...
