I have a new 900Mhz Socket A Athlon T-Bird and a QDI KenetiZ 7T and pc133edo memory. I can turn the power on and nothing happens and it won't turn off unless I unplug it. I have used memory from my other computer pc100 and it won't turn on either. I have tried different video cards and nothing happened either. I changed the jumpers from auto to 9x multiplier for the cpu speed and checked that the system was set to 100Mhz. All parts are brand new. Can anyone shed some light on this problem for me. Thank you.

Here's a couple of ways you can troubleshoot this, first, unplug everything, like your monitor cables, and speakers and keyboard and stuff.
then turn it on, and to see if everything works ok, plug your monitor back in. if you still arent getting any video, you need to check to see if it sounds like the computer is booting up, when you turn it on you should hear the hdd start initializing, and then you should hear it start buzzing a bit, going into windows or whatever your running. If not, then you will need to open the case, and remove all of the periphrials, sound, modems, etc. leave the video card in, and then turn it on, if you get POST then, you will need to troubleshoot the peripherials, if not, remove the memory, and see if you get the BEEP codes when you turn it on.. if not, put the memory back in, take the video card out, leave all other periphrials out, and then try it again, see if the hdd spins up, if it still doesnt sound like its working unplug all ide cables put the video card back in, and turn it back on, if your still getting NO POST, you will most likely need to get yourself a new motherboard.

Check the voltage selector switch on the Power supply. It should be set to 115V.
IF that is not your problem then, remove the motherboard from the case, remove all cards execpt the video card, plug in the power connectors (case and power supply), speaker, keyboard and mouse. if it will boot that means that you are shorting something to the case when it is installed. Check the standoffs make sure that they all line up with mobo mounting holes. DO NOT LEAVE EXTRAS. Once you get the minimum going out of the case you can now but it back with the knowledge that all of your components are good. If you cannot get it going on the bench it is much easier to swap and inspect on the bench then in the case.
Good Luck

100x9? And this is a Tbird? Are you sure its not a 200mhz FSB??? I have never heard of a 900mhz with only a 100mhz bus. Look into that...that might be why you are having problems. If your CPU is 200mhz FSB then i wouldn't be suprised that underclocking it to 100mhz doesn't work. Tell me what you think. Its probably 200x4.5 instead of 100x9...thats an awful high multiplier.

The problem was the mounting. Apparently the metal screws that came with the damn case were shorting it. I replaced them with plastic screws and everything seems to work. You would think that they would give you plastic screws when you buy the case for this reason. The jumpers on the motherboard for speed were only 100Mhz or 133Mhz. Perhaps they were for memory speed? JFSB was the jumper label.
Now my computer works but it randomly freezes for some strange reason. I guess this problem is hard to diagnose no?
Thanks for all the help though!
