it's part of the ubb code, just place the url between these two code brackets [url.][/url.] { without the periods.

example [url.]http:\\www.somewhere.com[/url.]

just like that without the periods.

This is how to do it with 'click here' rather than the url.

[ URL=http://www.grisoft.com]CLICK HERE

example: CLICK HERE (http://www.grisoft.com)

click edit on any post which contains these type of links & you can see how they're made up. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

an easy way is to copy your url from the address bar and paste into your post. then post your message & it will be automatically converted, then click on edit, highlight the address (in the 2nd part of the string) delete it, then add 'click here'

http://www.revi.co.uk/

click (http://www.revi.co.uk/)

Hi Bogart,

When you're replying to a post, if you look directly to the left, you will see some bottons. If you click on the one that looks like a globe, (seccond from left, top line) it will set the code for you. It should look like this

(no space at the end)

If you put the address www.pcguide.com (http://) after the http:// and then type HERE between the brackets ][ it should work for you.

Then you can go to the Test forum and play around. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

let's say your reading a topic, then you want to post a reply, adding a link.

1st find your link & (right click) copy it from the address bar in your browser

go back to the topic & click on 'post reply' this will take you to the reply page,
enter your user name & password,
type out your message & paste in your link where appropriate,
submit your reply, you will be taken back to the topic page

your posted link will look something like

http:\\my link.com

(as the code has been added automatically)

if you want your link to show 'click here' then click on 'edit' (2nd from right at top of your reply you will be taken back to the reply page,

your link (in the 'reply' page) will now look something like

[ht tp:\\my link.com]my link.com

note that the code has been put in automatically

now change the 2nd address ie: 'my link.com' to 'click here'

eg: FROM...[ht tp:\\my link.com]my link.com

TO:... [ht tp:\\my link.com]CLICK HERE

(note that the spaces are to stop the links from ACTUALLY posting.

click submit & your done. hope that explains, BTW you can click on 'edit' on any post to see the codes.

Bogart101 A general tip; if you ever want to see how any post was originally written then click its "Edit" icon. You won't be able to edit it (because you didn't post it) but you will be able to see the whole syntax of the original.

Then you can compare the original with the display. You could also copy the original and go and paste it (and play around with it) in the testing forum.

Watch the square brackets and any spaces next to them very carefully. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

But VIC, you'd need to be pretty quick on the "edit trigger finger" to avoid being locked out by a "faster" subsequent poster! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

yes your quite right with that, really best to do it in the testing forum 1st, then copy it & paste into the original topic. I ususlly keep a blank notepad in my quick launch bar & compose my messages in there then just paste them into the reply. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

bogart

it will only work in this site, or another using the same code.
