Hi! and welcome to the PCGuide! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
Simply open logo.sys/logos.sys/and logow.sys in ms paint, paste in a pic you want and just use the " save.." option ( you don't want to change these system file extension's.)
Be aware however that you can only use 256 color's so choose your pic's carefully.
logo.sys = startup
logos.sys = shutdown
logow.sys = wait screen/now you're ready to shutdown

Hey BOB or MJC,
Can you tell me what files are for the startup and shutdown sounds? I saw someone post it before but lost them when my machine crashed http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif
Thanks

hey, wat r the names of these(.sys) files in Windows ME ? i searched for all the three but found only logos.sys (shutdown screen) although the startup screen is displayed everytime , so the file must be there .

Hi rahulkothari,
Did you use the "Search files and folders" feature? Mine shows up in c:\windows\options\cabs.
And with ME, you won't have the "logow.sys" as it shuts the machine down on it's own.

logo.sys=windows start
logow.sys=windows wait, displayed when windows is shutting down
logos.sys=windows it is safe to turn off your computer
If you can't find logo.sys but it displays a start screen it is because a copy of this image is embedded in the IO.sys file but if you add a file named logo.sys the system will use it instead of the embedded image as for the logow.sys this file isn't needed (and you may or may not have one) but if you don't have one just do the same as for logo.sys create one. Logo.sys is located in the root of your C drive(C:\logo.sys). logow.sys and logos.sys are located in C:\windows folder. The images must be windows or OS2 bitmaps (.bmp renamed with the .sys extension), 320X400 pixels, pixel depth 8/256 colors be careful if these images are not in the right format they can cause your PC to not boot or hang on shutdown be careful of double extensions ie logo.sys.bmp this will not work windows will see it as a .bmp and not display it. Tucows.com (http://themes.tucows.com/startup.html) has allot of startup and shutdown screens to download free. Most of them you just change the extension and move them to the proper directory being sure to rename the original file first so you can get it back if you change your mind later. Change it to something like logo.bak so it won't be overwritten when you move the file that you downloaded to the same folder.

Yes issbob you did but rahulkothari can't find his because they aren't there. Mostly I was trying to tell him why the image was there but the file isn't. Second to direct the orlginal poster and any one else that wants free pre-made startup and shutdown screens you can even get a Windows 3.1 start screen or 3.11 for workgroups can even make your PC look like a Macintosh they also have Windows themes. They have a new one to make Win 9X look like Win XP.
