I just got a Digital video camera (JVC GR-DVL725u). It's great so far, but I want to be able to download video clips to my computer, edit them, and burn them to CD (video CD if possible). I don't really know where to get started other than the fact that I know I need an IEEE 1394 port for my computer.

Can anyone let me know what other steps I need to take to figure this out? My computer is fairly new, so it should handle everything ok (although I know if I really get into it I'll need a bigger HD). Here's my current setup:

P4 1.7GHz
Asus P4S333 MB
256 MB PC2100 DDR RAM
IBM ATA100 40GB HD
Sound Blaster Live
G-force 2 video card (MX w/ 64 MB RAM)

I would appreciate any advice!
Thanks

hello glyoung,
There are quite a few options at this point.
First off, depending on what OS you have, it may have a decent video editor built in.
Second, did the camera come with anything?
Third, when you get your IEEE adaptor, some come with a usable program.
And last but not least, spring $500.00 for Adobe Premier. Now your cookin with gas http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Now the next steps:
Use your editing prog. to capture the footage you want (software manule and help files will show you what you need to do.)
Do whatever editing you want.
Save this as a file.
With burning software, select that file and burn to disk.

I would recommend burning raw footage to CD-RW so that you can free up camera tape, and then delete whatever unwanted footage from disk.

Good luck and have fun http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
