View Full Version : Word 97 prob
Any idea’s on this, when I try to launch Word 97, some times it sends itself to the task bar, instead of opening, and then when I click on maximise it does open, but the page is really small.
Some times it open’s as it is supposed to. Thanks ZAK

Word should open to the same window size that it last closed from. If there's a way to force it to open maximized regardless of that, I don't know what it is.

There's a patch for Word 2k that forces new documents to open in the same window. It's a template you put in the Word startup folder. I found it not too long ago at www.annoyances.org. (http://www.annoyances.org.) Might be worth looking around there for a fix for your annoyance.

Is the view set to normal view and not page layout, etc?
Is zoom set to 100%?
You could also try restoring the original setup from the options given to you after clicking add/remove from ControlPanel<>Add/Remove Programs<>MSOffice97 or MSWord97.

Right click on the icon on the desktop choose properties in the resulting dialogue box will be a pull down menu labeled Run: the options are minimized, normal, and maximized choose maximized choose apply and than ok. From then on it should run maximized instead of minimized. This works for most of the other programs too but not all of them (IE).

I don’t know – I do not know where to look, but I would have thought that if that was the case then it would open the same way every time. but if you can tell me where to look I will check it. Thanks
Pentachris –
I will give your suggestion a shot. Thanks.

Don’t know about magnification, strangely enough I have just shut down word about twenty times to check it and it has opened ok every time this seems weird to me.
Regarding add remove – I clicked on office 97 then clicked on remove and I was asked for the office 97 disk, is that what should happen? Thanks

There is no Office 97 Icon on the desktop, and I have also noticed that the option to open document has gone missing from the list of programs on the start button, but the option to, open new document is still there. The same problem occurs with that also. Tried right clicking on that, but it does not work. Thanks

ZAK Yes that is normal. You will need the installation disk so that it can reinstall any corrupted or missing files etc.

in explorer click view, then folder options, then view.
in the list you will find an option to 'remember folder settings' if it is ticked then the folder will open to the same size etc. as when you closed it.
