PC Shutdown

How do I get my HP to shutdown and turn off again???
I installed XP and at first it used to turn itself OFF, not when I select shutdown, it restarts. Any takers?????

What model HP?

And are you 100% positive that "shutdown" is actually the highlighted item on the shutdown menu?
