I recently installed 98SE on my parents computer. It's running fine except for when they go to shut it down, it will freeze on the "Windows 98 is shutting down" screen. it has gotten to the point where they're just hitting the surge protector switch when it does this. How do I get it so it will do a full shut down and not freeze?

Make sure they go to windows update; there is a patch for this.

I agree go get the patch first from microsoft. Although i had a probelm like this with an old compaq system, as the Workstation 5000 seem to have this problem alot. The patch didn't work, the only thing to remedy my problem was yet another format and a fresh install of windows M.E.(as opposed to win98se) It was more stable and boot and shutdown times were lightning fast..... who said M.E was rubbish, I've never had a probelm with it on any of my systems!
