Ok well I have a Pentium PC and I would to use it as a firewall/router for my small LAN. Any suggestions or online text manuals would be great.

Search on Google and you will get lots of hits.

If you have Linux Installed already just check the MAN files for router
Or go Here http://www.linuxrouter.org/

I second Rick. Linux is the way to go. It's free and there is plenty of documentation.
Ipchains and Iptables are the built in firewalls for Linux.
Adding rules is very easy to do, but you will need to have some basic knowledge of TCP/IP. ( but this is true for all firewalls that you configure your self)
If your interested take a look here for information on how to setup IPchains.
