I have a 400 MHz Celeron PC with a 66 MHz memory bus running WIN98. It came with 64 MB RAM. I added a 128 MB PC100 Micron module last week. With the new memory, Internet Explorer 5 (and 5.5) will cause the computer to freeze within one minute of accessing certain websites (like my web banking). This is fairly repeatable. It also froze after accessing a site with some Flash graphics. I have removed the 128 MB memory stick and the problem went away. I did not have any problems with MS office or other software that I run. I do not have Netscape, so haven't tried that option. I also haven't tried reinstalling IE, although I did upgrade to IE 5.5 after having this problem with IE 5, but I got the same result.
What I am wondering is whether there is an incompatibility with the setup on my BIOS that could cause this to occur. I had the same problem when I removed the 64MB stick and ran with only the 128 MB stick.
The micron module is MT8LSDT1664A. THe current BIOS setup has the bus set for an access of 12ns and a speed of 66 MHz. I also tried access time of 10 ns, but the result was the same. I am not sure what the make of the 64MB stick is as it came with the PC.
Any ideas as to what I can do to further investigate this problem are welcome.

Sounds like incompatible memory. Check the motherboard manual to see if it needs a specific memory type. You could have the wrong density, wrong speed, (10/12ns) or wrong type altogether (buffered/unbuffered, ECC, etc.)

Could also be that the machine uses proprietary memory.

Check the manual.
