Hi Borgdrone, Only the first cd must have the bootable files on it and once you have a operating eviorment (i.e. Command.com) you can then execute the ghostpe.exe executable from there and Norton's Ghost will start.
If you choose high compression method you should be able to fit 3gigs on one cd-r or cd-rw with no problem.
Which Norton's Ghost are you using btw? GHOST2002? or 2001? becuase Ghost2002 supports taking the bootable files required to make a bootable disk directly from your A: drive or floppy drive and transfers them automatically to your cd to make it bootable.
Here is an execellent link to a GHOST howto guide: http://ghost.radified.com/ navagate to the Ghost back-up guide.

hello
i used norton ghost all went well.made a copy of drive c:/ took 5 cds even with comperstion set on hight.
allso copyed drive c:\ to my new hard drive witch windows did not reconize but bios and dos did. since it was un partioned and not formated.
ghost formated and partioned as it went .im useing that copy now.i cant tell the diferance in the o/s other than it seam more responcive other drive was 5200 rpm this ones 7200 or so .allso tryed cd copyes of drive in an old computer and they installed no problem over the o/s that was there.
not even the same system.the other o/s was smaller so it got completely coverd not sure if that makes any diferance.allso tryed cds on a hard drive that id done low level format. installed just fine.
ive not tryed saveing drive image to a partion yet as the new drive is not keeping this o/s or partions was just done this way so i could learn how to use a new tool
thx agian for your help. much apperceated

Good! i'm glad all went well. You will learn new tricks here and there about ghost. There is alot of extra little helpful switches you can use when preforming Imaging with ghost. Nope never had my data corrupted when using high compression or low compression. High compression takes longer and takes up less space but besides that I can see no down sides to it. Theorectically data does have a higher probability of getting corrupted the more you compress it especially if you compress allready compressed data. That may or may not be true but i did hear that some where. Hmmmm you used the highest compression and it still took 3 cd's to hold 3 gigs? Weird I can hold about 5 to 6 GB of data on one cd-rom with the highest compression method used. I wonder if it could be the cd media your using? I use 80 minute 750Mb cd-r media. Glad things worked out for ya. Isn't ghost the ****? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif Happy computer tinkering.

hello and thx agian.
it took 5 cds so i ether did not click on the high compertion or it just did not use it. but cds are cheap i use 700 meg cds buy them in blubk i do lots of music ect.so i dont have to worrie about compertion errors this time lol.
i saw the other option for ghost ill be doing more investigateing and learning on them shortly.
i,m starting to use partion magic.most likely be posting a question or two in here once ive read every thing over.i used it once but had a frend e mail me the exact steps not exactly much learning doing that. but i had a drive that needed doing than not weeks latter when i have time to go over system.
so thank you again for your help
have a nice day
