I have purchased a new mouse for a spare computer whihc has accompanying software.
I want to know how best to install it?

I had problems before installing mouse and ended up formatting my whole hard disk before I got it working due to having mice conflicts in the device manger.

The mouse that is one there at present and is working has no accompanying software and so thus works without any software however this will be taken of since it will be used on another computer.

Currently in My-computer/right-clk/properties/device manager
there is NO conflict and I want to keep it like that if possible.

So these are the steps I will take before I install the mouse:

1: Go into device manager delete the current icon mouse.
2: Turn of computer
3: Plug in 9-pin female serial mouse.
4: Start computer
5: run the mouse software.

You can't use a PS/2 mouse and Serial mouse at the same time.

You don't need to install any special software for 98> systems to recognize a serial mouse, just make sure the PS/2 one is unplugged.

98> will recognize the mouse as a serial interface and setup the *.ini files to run it.

If you're talking about the third party software that logitech likes to use-you can install it after you hook up the mouse.

However i don't believe anyone makes a serial mouse anymore-much less any updated software to use one. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif PS/2 mice are much easier to use and more efficient.

If this is just an oldie laying around you wish to use, then by all means-have fun.
