Hello Everyone, I have a shortcut to close out my ISP using the keyboard! I want to be able to restart my pc quickly, like in my 98SE (you just hit Ctrl+alt+delete) but this trick does not work on xp home edition! Does anyone know a Keyboard shortcut for quickly Re-starting an XP? Please let me know, Tom

One possible way is to install a small utility called Shutdown.
Install the program then create a link to it using the shutdown -4 switch
(Shutdown then restart ) place it on the desktop or Assign it a Hot key.

For XP you don't even need a 3rd party program, check this out:

Only One Major flaw with the MS supplied Shutdown Program.
The SHUTDOWN segment Doesn’t work,,,

If you try it with the proper command line switch to ShutDown the system
You will be greeted with a Very Old Screen .

It Is Now Safe to Turn Your Computer Off Your Computer..
Turning an ATX shut down into an AT shutdown requiring the power switch.

After discovering this problem I Discontinued using the MS shutdown.

Yeah, i just tried this shortcut and i kept getting the window system32 folder screen instead of a Reboot! Evidently it dont work or i am doing something wrong, here are the instructions i followed for my xp>>> In Windows XP, restoring the shortcut is amazingly easy. Right-click on the Desktop and choose New | Shortcut from the pop-up menu. Browse to the file C:\Windows\ System32\Shutdown.exe, click Next, name the shortcut, and click Finish. Now right-click on the new shortcut and choose Properties. In the Target box, append the command line switch -l (to log off), -s (to shut down), or -r (to reboot). Hiredgoonz, what do you think is wrong, Maybe if you got time try it on your pc and see if you can get it to work? Tom

Here is a link to the version I use. http://downloads-zdnet.com.com/3000-2094-8098153.html?tag=lst-0-13

I simply created a folder for it.
Then created a link to the new folder and program.
Using the correct switch from both My desktop icon / link to it.

I also use it with MBM5 for shutdown in case of a fan failure or Temps get to high on the cpu.

This version shuts an ATX system down completely same as the winXP start/shutdown
In Fact it is a little faster.

BTW. this version is also Free
