Apparently, I accidentally erased autoexec.bat and config.sys (and emptied the recycle bin). I didn't realize this until i restarted the computer and it said "c:\File Not Found" during startup. I ran sysedit after Windows 95b loaded up, and it turns out that autoexec.bat and config.sys are missing. I know we're supposed to have startup disks and back up these important files, but these disks have been misplaced, and I cannot find them. Is there any way to recreate these files? I didn't think Windows could even load up without these files.

Thanks ahead of time.

First, Windows doesn't require autoexec.bat or config.sys to load, it will run fine without them, or more correctly, with both there, but empty.

Recreating them is easy, open notepad, and save an empty notepad file as autoexec.bat in the root directory of C drive. Do the same for config.sys. That should fix the "missing file" error.

Usually the only thing these files are used for in Windows is to load DOS drivers for mouse or CD ROM if you use them in DOS. Bitware fax software created a path statement in autoexec.bat on my system, I haven't seen anything else do that. It's the only line in either file. Config.sys is empty.
