View Full Version : Mail Server
I wasn't sure exactly where this should go so my apologies ahead of time if this is the wrong place. I'm running Apache 1.3 server on Windows with PHP, Perl & MySQL. I want to be able to send and receive e-mail, set up pop accounts, etc. What mail server so I get in order to complete this task?

I would run Apache on Linux. You get a better selection of mail servers that way. On Windows I not sure there is anything free like "Sendmail" or "qmail" for Windows.
Good Luck http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I like RedHat because it's easy to update all of it's packages. Once you register just type "up2date" at a command prompt to start the process. But it isn't the most secure out of the box.( so you'll have to watch what version of packages are install by default more closly.) FreeBSD is the most secure from what I've heard and alot of folks run webservers on it. So that would be my 2nd pick.
Alot of folks on this forum seem to like Mandrake, so I'll throw that out there. But I've never used it so can't give you any clues about it.
Hope this helps http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
