Hello,
I' ve decided to build my own custom PC, without all the junk wich is offered through world known brands. I' ve got information about almost everything, except on FITTING the P4 processor on the MB.
How do I proceed, because ther are 478 pins to put in?
What should I do first?
And the cooling plate/ ventilator?
Can something go wrong?
Please help

Kindly greetings
Dirk
The Cpu pin layout is setup so that it will only fit into the socket one way.
By leaving a corner pin out.

The cpu and socket will have a marker in the form of a dot or triangle to mark the corner the empty Corner fits into..
You place the CPU into the socket and mount it into place with the Zif (Zero insertion force) lever.
The Mother board manual should show you in detail how to mount the cpu.
It’s really very simple. Lift the zif arm. Place the chip into the socket and press down lightly.
Then move the zif arm down and lock it on the tab.
Depending on the Mother board and heatsink you have you’ll get detailed information on mounting the Heat sink and fan

The corner of the CPU with the missing pin will be cut off at a 45deg angle. http://www.intel.com/pressroom/images/processors/celeron_1pt7ghz_ft.jpg
