Hi,
Does anybody know how to get Norton Ghost to put its images onto CD (Directly from the HDD), or does anybody know of some software that does this? Basically I am trying to make an image of my HDD and span it over multiple CD's. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Any suggestions/comments? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/redface.gif

Thanks http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

See here (http://ghost.radified.com/ghost_1.htm).

In a nutshell, Ghost 2002 will do this automatically for many cdrw drives.

(Finding a full copy that you can download off the web isn't too hard if you know what you're looking for. There's no copy protection to crack - you've just got to find it.)

For older versions, when you get the A:> prompt in DOS, instead of typing ghost.exe (or ghostpe.exe), type ghost.exe -split=xxx (or ghostpe.exe split=xxx) where xxx is the number of megabytes you want to split the image into (for instance 640 for 650 MB disks).

Sorry, dude.

I'll tell you that there are files out there available for illegal download, but I'm not going to tell you where they are. It's not too hard to guess the exact filename they might have and google it.

Pentachris..question, please. It was just a couple of days ago that a friend of ours was saying that he couldn't get Ghost to work much past three CDs. He said that Ghost was gonna need..like 7 CDs, I think. Doubt if he has the latest version, so the command is "ghost.exe -split=xxx" without quotes..and is that a space after exe and before the hyphen? I understand the MB part..although I remember reading HP's Help file once where it said that after the formatting, even a 650MB disk only had 540 of available space.

Yes, there's a space there. CDR's don't require formatting - a 650 MB CDR holds (usually just a little bit more than) 650 MB. CDRW's may be a different story - I've never used them, so I don't know.

I'm not sure I answered your question, though, Kay...

I'm not aware of any problems ghost has spanning images over more than three (or any) number of files. I know that it won't recognize files over, I think, 2 GB. That's in the Radified guide as well.

Congrats on 1000 posts. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thanks..have written in down for future reference. After I posted, I asked my husband which Ghost our friend is using..and it is 2002, so should according to what I read earlier in this thread work "automatically", so suspect there's another problem with his Ghost difficulty. But your command line gives us something else to try after eliminating other possibles, and that's always a good thing.

Wow..I hadn't even noticed..I do tend to talk too much, huh??? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
