Good morning (down under time).

I noticed that our Modem (connecting to an NT server) had Tx & Rx leds flashing heavily. Strange, I thought - nobody is in except me and shouldn't be using the browsing facility. Upon investigation, I discover that WinMX v3.1 is installed and has a mapping to one of the PC's on the LAN. There were 3 uploads running and 1 download. (My illustrious leader has setup). He loves collecting thousands of MP3 etc etc. I do not know alot about this software, can anyone elaborate for me regarding security issues with this. I feel a tad nervous about it all, going through our LAN. I appreciate any input regarding security using this software.

Regards
Fiona

I have not encountered any problems with Winmx despite running at home for about 2 years. This software (if set up correctly) limits the folders(directories) and file types that can be perused. Also you should not that the downloader is not actually on your pc.
