I'm having a rather peculiar problem with my PC. It won't shutdown. When the command to shutdown is selected from the 'START' menu, the system powers all the way down, clicks off, and then clicks on and reboots. I've checked most of the areas that Microsoft suggests (the system is running Windows 98), including the 'FastShutdown' setting in the registry, which is disabled, ran 'MSCONFIG' and performed a 'clean boot' by disabling everything at start up (autoexec.bat, config.sys, win.ini, system.ini, and anything in the 'startup' folder) so the only program running after I re-booted was 'explorer.exe'. I also created a shortcut on the desktop to shut the system down using the 'C:\Windows\rundll32.exe User.exe,ExitWindows' command, in case the last reboot option was somehow stuck in memory in the registry somewhere. No luck. I also ran my antivirus software (with the latest updates) and NO viruses where detected.
Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for you time.
