How do I set my cookies in Opera?
I want to keep the likes of PCGuide and be able to delete any I do not want when I close Opera down, I also want the chance to accept or reject cookies when a page is opening up. At present I am having to reset my preferences every time and also fill in my user name and password when I try to post. The choice of accepting or rejecting PCGuide's cookies are not coming up. I have tried delteing all cookies and starting afresh but no joy. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

I am also having probs with the graphics in opera. smudged graphics and overerlapping test, by pressing reload this clears the problem but loading the same page twice is defeating the speed gain from Opera. I have no problems with windows or IE. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Hi Ernie. Go to File Menu's Preferences and then to Privacy.

Enable cookies but set "Accept only cookies from Selected Servers".

Then under "Edit Server Filters" I would add www.pcguide.com (http://www.pcguide.com) under "Accept from Server".

Don't know about the graphics though. I did have some teething problems with them at the start but OK since the last upgrade/reinstall.

Thanks Paul
I have set "Accept From Selected Servers". In EDIT do I just enter www.pcguide.com (http://www.pcguide.com) (exactly as I have written it) or something else?

As for the graphics. I know that ATI can cause problems in certain situations and was wondering if this was one of them.

I have just set www, pcguide, com (dots not commas) and that seems to work just fine.

Hey ErnieK,

WRT the graphics thing, for a long time Opera had a problem rendering pages that contained alot of tables and graphics because of the way that it loaded pages (specifically, IIRC, it was unable to resize a table after it was loaded initially). This might be the cause of your overlapping graphics/text.

Anyway, if you run into tech issues with Opera, a great resource (other than these forums, of course) are the newsgroups opera.general and opera.tech. (If your ISP doesn't carry them, point your newsreader to news.opera.com).

Opera follows W3C's standards which Idiot Exployer does not, neither does Outlook Express!
M$ is not a internet standard and too many webmasters write only for I.E. which is designed for idiots!

The reason those pages do not display properly is the webmaster screwed up and took the easy/lazy/unimformed route and never checked the compatability issue with:

John5211 interesting about the tables and rendering. That must explain the poor display of this website when pics are turned off (to speed things up) and with the text pushed right over to the right.

I personally like browsing in both author mode and pagedisplay mode in conjunction with F11 (for toggling full screen).

Many other browsers have similar problems.......or worse. And yes, most of it is standard compatability....which IE is not very standards compliant but is what most pages are written for.
