Hey,

Is it absolutely necessary to put thermal paste between the heatsink and the processor P4 1,7 GHz?

Tnx Dirk

If you have a thermal pad that came on the stock P4 HSF use it or use some other thermal interface material but you have to use something. Arctic Silver III thermal paste is supposed to be the best if you can get some but if you can't, use a thermal pad or grease. If you use thermal paste or grease you need to remove the thermal pad. don't mount the heatsink without thermal interface material be it pad, paste, or grease. It will fry almost as fast as an Athlon. Well not quite but it won't do the CPU any good running hot.
