Let's say, for argument sake, that I have 2 hard drives and 2 CD drives. For each of my 2 IDE connectors I have a master and a slave. And now I want to add a zip drive. How do I hook up the extra drive when I've used up all my IDE connectors?

If you're trying to hook up a 5th IDE device, you can buy a PCI card that will allow you to hook up aditional IDE stuff.

However...

I suggest you look into the advantages/disadvantages of using IDE, SCSI, FireWire, and USB (esp. the new USB 2.0). Expansion cards for all of these protocols are availabe, and something other than IDE might fit with your future plans/needs better.

If you have a motherboard with RAID you may be able to use the IDE RAID channels as regular IDE channels. I can have 8 IDE devices with my Soyo board. The RAID channels are UDMA 133 the only thing I can't do is hook up ATAPI (CD drives) devices to the RAID channels.
