Hi to All>>
I have 98s edition and also have partition magic.
I want to install Linux 8.2 under another drive name after I partition my drive. But still will use 98s for booting my system. What is the best way to install this other operating system where I may change to run it after I initially boot my system under 98s edition?
Thank you>>
Once you have the partitions setup for windows .
leaving the amount of free space you want for Linux
Install windows.
then install linux and it will install a boot loader
With the boot loader you control how the system boots.
You can set the boot default timer to any number you like ( seconds to select O/S)
you can select what the default OS will be.
Allowing you to power up and walk away
Booting to your default system ( Win or Linux)
You will have complete control over the boot process
To select the other O/S you simply shut down or select restart from the O/S you are running and
At the boot loader screen use the arrow keys ( Or hot key) to select what you want to do next

You do not need to reinstall 98. Just use Partition Magic to resize your Win98 partition to make room for the linux partition. When you install linux tell it to use the empty space that is left when you resized the win98 partition. Linux will make it's own partitions in the empty space and will install it's own boot manager that will let you boot to either Windows98 or Linux.

I have just installed Linux 8.2 (eventually) but it did cause some probs.
see link

as you see from the link it is not yet resolved as partition magic is still down. I haven't had the time to work out any fixes yet, so take care.
Note: I am triple booting. w98se. w2000. Linux.
