cache pattern test failure

i have an elonex pentium 90. recently when i boot up it runs the memory test, registers the memory, then says cache ok. but then i get a message saying

cache pattern test failure

if i press esc and then go to the bios setup and press f10 the system boots up fine and then runs into windows 98, and everything works perfectly

i seemed to recall it used to say 256k cahe or something similar

it is exasperating having to step through the bios setup everytime, and i can find nothing in the bios menu itself which would allow me to do anything about the problem
