Hi everyone. I'm trying to track down a bit of software, which may or may not yet be commercially available (if at all). I play a bit of guitar and with certain tracks, say for example Skynrds Freebird, I want to single out the lead which starts around mid way and goes right to the end. The purpose of this is to learn (the easy way) the various notes/chords, which make up the riff. I have previously used Cakewalk, which does a great job for midi files but has no support for mp3 or wav. It is not so much isolating other sounds that I want but rather locating a specific instrument (guitar) and having it displayed on sheet or in tab form. My trouble is locating software to do this for mp3 and/or wave. Does anyone out there know of any such software? I have tried demos of cubase and the latest cakewalk but no good. I have also been told by a retailer that it is not possible because of converting analogue to digital within the software???
Thanks all.

Don't know of anything that would do it, but I simply listen and play along...and can copy most of Freebird, but I HATE to play it anymore...too many times years ago, and it's been played to death on the radio. I turn it off soon as they start it now...then there was the night we speeded it up to 78 rpm...lol...I saw Snoopy!!!
You might also check music stores, they usually have a pretty good selection of music books with guitar parts already written out.

Thanks for that Pete. I know what you're saying and if I had loads of free time I would dearly love to sit and work out riffs etc. As it is the internet/software etc make life a lot easier (and lazier).
If only I could purchase the natural talent of Mr Page...........

I haven't been able to go through most of what they've got here but maybe you'll find what you need.

Thanks MJC. That really is an impressive website and one, which I am likely to spend many hours on. It looks like it will take time to trawl through but I guess if it hasn't got what I'm looking for then there is little hope elsewhere at present.
Again, thank you for the trouble to reply and for invaluable information.
Best wishes.
