I installed a scanner on my computer and am running it through my USB port. It worked for a while, but when I tried to use it the other day, it wouldn't recognise it. I uninstalled the software and when I tried to reinstall it I got an error message stating "The settup program was unable to turn on your USB ports." I reenabled them in my BIOS, and checked my control settings which seemd to indicate they were working. I have a Celeron 566 mz with windows me. WOuld anybody have any ideas on this? I am totally befuddled.
Thanks.

Well.....the first thing to do is go into Control Panel/System/Device Mgr......arrow down to the USB area(toward bottom) and look to see if there are any "!" marks.....if there are, that's the problem....if not, then try putting the USB device in the Other USB port (if you havent already)...If that doesnt work we may have to look at whether you have control over whether the USB uses IRQ settings or Not......and a few other things........post back with results.

I finally uninstalled and reinstalled windows. This seemed to do the trick so it must have been some software problem. Thanks for your input. Sorry about the repost. Being only semiliterate, I forgot where it was posted and thought it got lost. Thanks again. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
