Well everyone,

It is official, I'm absolutely positively nuts.... I just finished surfing the Web on a Dell 333s/L, a 386 machine with 8MB of memory, and a USR Sporster internal (33.6), it was slow but IT CAN BE DONE!!! And with a DOS based browser, no less! So for all you out there who want the BEST surfing experience ever you should try it yourself..... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

You have my deepest and most heartfelt sympathy.
Was it painful or just boring? At least you probably got
caught up on your sleep now, napping while the pages loaded.
Was this on purpose, like an experiment, or what? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Yes, it was an experiment, I did it to myself and they weren't really that slow just slow enough to notice the difference...

That's prolly cuz you weren't lugging that Windows monkey
around on your back. Lots of overhead in the GUI.
Old DOS had it's limitations, to be sure, but after 3.0
the code got tighter and tighter.

What Browser were you using?

I still have Dr. Dos 7 here somewhere.
But have lost the browser . ( Where’s that Old Backup? )(Or didn’t I backup my backup? )

The browser is Arachne (http://home.arachne.cz/) and it comes in two flavors, DOS and Linux. Also here (http://www.simtel.net/pub/msdos/) and here (http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Lakes/1401/softlib1.htm) for lots more good old DOS apps.

I am using MSDos 6.0.
