I'm sure in addition to spam everyone gets their share of junk mail courtesy of the US Postal Service. Here's a copy of an email I got today with some ideas for all that junk mail:

************************************************** *******

When you get those pre-approved letters in the mail for everything from credit cards to 2nd mortgages and junk like that, most of them come with postage paid return envelopes, right?

Well, why not get rid of some of your other junk mail and put it in these cool little envelopes!

Send an ad for your local chimney cleaner to American Express. Or a pizza coupon to Citibank.

If you didn't get anything else that day, then just send them their application back! Just make sure your name isn't on anything you send them. Heck, you can send it back empty if you want to just to keep 'em guessing!

Let's turn this into a chain letter! Eventually, the banks and credit card companies will begin getting all their crap back in the mail.

Let's let them know what it's like to get junk mail, and best of all...THEY'RE paying for it! Twice!

Let's help keep our postal service busy since they say e-mail is cutting
into their business, and that's why they need to increase postage again!

Send this to a friend or two or three...or fifty...

This may be worth sending on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

************************************************** ***

Thanks goes to my brother, I have no idea where he found it...

Do it all the time myself. Especially like to send Visa apps to Amex and vice versa. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Heard this guy on The Bob & Tom Show out of Indianapolis http://www.tommabe.com/home.php One of the CD's is "Revenge On The Telemarketers". On top of being hilarious, he has some advice to stem the TM. I didn't check, but I sure hope he put a sample for listening on that site...I bought his first CD...absolutely genius.

Here's what I do kayden azagthoth.

Answer the phone in your loudest latino accent saying "Hellooo, this is Pedro!!" let them talk for thirteen seconds and then repeat "Hellooo, this is Pedro!!". Wait another seven seconds and then yell "Okayyy, bye-bye!!" Then hang up.

Thats funny dog http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

not much you can do (at least as far as I know) about the TMr's but someone did tell me once if you get one of those recording calls where its just a recording that says please listen to this money saving offer etc.....they told me it somehow costs the company that is making these calls money if you leave the phone off the hook and let it run......not sure if this is true but at any rate it makes it pretty imposible for anyone else to bother you while you eat http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

i dont know what issue it was, but maxim had an article on how to deal w/ telemarketers. one of them was to ask them if "they know jesus", and if you can get them to yell out "praise the lord!" w/ you, you have won. or tell them that you think the line is tapped.

Kayden,
You could just try telling them how sexy their voice is, and ask them personal "get to know them" kind of questions. That ought to make them want to get off the phone. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Heh heh! All good ideas gang! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif I especially like the one about the latino accent...although I do a pretty decent Pakistani accent. I don't know about trying to scare them off with talking all sexy and hitting on the person. It could backfire...and if it's a guy that I'm 'hitting' on, it would be very, very scary!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I read somewhere that if you tell the particular telemarketer to never call your house again, legally they can't call you back for a full year. And if you have record of when they called and they call back again before the year is up, you could sue them for harrassment. Now, I know that's going a bit far but it's another option.

I think getting an unlisted number may help too. But ya gotta pay for it...not worth it.

Cheers!!

If I'm in the mood I try to sell them something or I'll just breathe heavy and belch into the phone. The heavy breathing seems to work.

yes you can have them remove you from the calling list, and they have to remove you if you ask them to, but it doesnt do much to help you with the "next" one that calls...............for a while there the first words out of my mouth when they called was...."I want to be taken off your list", but I still get calls all the time, so I gave up. Takes too much time to go through all the crap of being removed. Its easier to just hang up...........

Here's how it goes.

You field the call. If It's a TMR, take the name of the caller, the name of the company they work for, and write down the time and date of the call. Then tell them you want no more calls and you want your name removed from their list. If the company calls again, it is harassment and the award is $500.00. Of course, you must keep a log of all calls of this sort.

I met a guy who cashed in on this once, but it took a long time. Apparently, TMR companies take this kind of thing quite seriously.
