WoW

kinda glad I missed the initial exchange on this (http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/Forum11/HTML/000482.html) topic.

I was wondering what had happened to iisbob, as usually he was right there for most posts.

Respectfully, (and I hope iisbob is reading this)-

Bob, I personally think you are an asset to these forums, however we need to keep things civil here at all times.

I was very surprised at the way you responded to the person that you were disagreeing with.

#1) When Pete advises to "leave it alone", that is his way of warning that he is about to become involved. When he does become involved I can tell you that he will be brutally fair and honest regarding his choice of words.

He also will show no 'favoritism', in fact a key point about Pete is that he actually expects more from people that have demonstrated helpfull behavior, and frequently are correct. (you)

I personally have 'bumped heads' w/ Pete, and I, can be pretty hardheaded as well. I also have found that all decisions made by Pete were always done with the overall good of the site in mind.

#2) I am glad to see that you didn't respond in a negative or to his decision. He is the man here and all his decisions are final.

I would hope that you could put this behind you and continue to participate here, keeping the above in mind.

I have found that upon posting someting incorrect, or not proofreading it , or being unaware of new information-(which could make something I take to be FACT no longer valid), that as long as I be sure to thank the person that has supplied me the correct information and try to not get an 'attitude' then it all works out fine.

This ENTIRE site is a learning experience for me, and I value all participating members.

no-one has to be or is expected to be right all the time, and that includes everyone.

so come on back and help some folks out here as you were doing, I kinda looked forward to some of the answers that I (invairiably) knew you were gonna give.. some things I knew, some I didn't, some had better ways of doing things.

just remember that open critisizm in a derogatory vain are not considered helpfull and cause more harm than good!

respectfully to all.

The way that I use this site, Sea , I never would have seen that thread except for this.

I hope that iisbob hasn't "gone off" because I have learned from him, and in many posts of his in the After Hours discussions we've had lately, he has expressed many opinions that I totally agree with better than I could.

The Net is awesome in that we can "connect" with people we would otherwise not meet, and since we cannot "see" them, whatever prejudgments we make about others are not possible. I think that is way way cool, but the downside is that we cannot see body language or facial expression and cannot "see" whether the other person has had (maybe) the day from Hell by the time he/she has arrived here. We all have bad days in which we do or say things we ordinarily would not from sheer crankiness or fatigue. My point is that one crabby set of posts doesn't detract in the slightest from many many other fine posts.

I may be going offline for a while, so I would like to thank everyone at pc guide especially these forums. I certainly have learned a lot through the troubleshooting threads. And especially the "After hours club" where I have had great fun 'bantering' with you all.

Cheers, Hope to be online for a couple more days.

That's too bad he's leaving, especially with all the knowledge he has, but, you have to be able to take someone elses opinion on the matter instaed of attacking them thinking that you know it all. I learn alot from all you guys, including iisbob, you all know a hell of a lot more than I do, but just because someone has a different solution, whether right or wrong, you don't have to keep throwing in everybody's face how long you have done this etc. I come here because I can ask/see noob and hard questions and they always get answered w/o flames. IMO, it's best kept that way, and with Pete around, I know that will be the case. I'm the biggest idiot there is with PC's, but, I feel if I at least try to answer a question, and it's wrong, I won't get flamed for it and then I can learn something in the process.I hope iisbob comes back and answers more questions in a civilized manner, but if he can't...
I'm sure after this I probably won't get any of my questions answered now, but, that's just my take.

I believe one of the worst mistakes one can make in life is thinking that you have nothing left to learn. Even so, the words "I stand corrected" come very hard for some people.

I agree with Kay that this out of character outburst was most probably due to an off day, which has happened to all of us. I think iisbob will privately be regretting this as we all would in the same cicumstances. I have followed iisbob's posting and agree that they have been educational as well as entertaining.

Being a techwannabe, I followed this forum for about a month before deciding to join. One of the reasons that promted me to join was the ability of newbies like myself to post reply's to other people's problems without the fear of being barbecued for making a few errors.
A major part of any tech's job is to give clear and concise information, a skill, which is often overlooked. This forum provides us all with the opportunity of practising those skills (without worrying about lawsuits).

I hope iisbob returns but if losing some of the many knowlegeable people like iisbob , is the price of keeping this forum, the friendly and welcoming place it is, then it's a price worth paying.

Hmm, thanks to all of your kind support and understanding, i felt it was time to takeoff for awhile till i had calmed down; unfortunatelty i've seen to many of these forums go into war zones and i did'nt want to be the instigator of one.

I apologize to Pete and ziba , and especially to the lot of you who have benefitted from my experiances ( i know i've continued tolearn a greatdeal from others here).

You're all right that sometimes we have an off day, and when you've bumped headswith certain persoanlities before, you naturall reaaction is to lash out-which is neither fair to yourself or to the other individual.

My company currently has me doing a new major network job, and i've returned to school for some updating on .net, new network protocols, etc..

I'll try to kep up with the happennings here, but it may be awhilebefore you see me again.

cheers http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Way to go Iisbob http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif I'm glad we didn't lose you forever. I've learned a ton from you on this forum and have also learned not to argue with you. (a little good and bad there, eh?) I don't pet dogs that growl, either, duh! and I'm confident that if it were a really important fight that I had on my hands, I'd want you on my side. I bet you're an incredibly loyal friend aren't you?!.

iisbob,
That's great man. I hope to see and learn more from you soon. Everybody has a bad day, and I for one don't hold one bad day against one person. It takes a big person to come back and say that they had a bad day whether they were right or wrong, doesn't matter. Come back soon. I'm not done learning yet! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
