What I meant by what I said is hopefully less confusing then the contemplation of the question that led to the confusion in the 1st place.......

I don' care much for microsoft my own self. But i'm not quit sure where your going with this. I'ts funny ya HA HA HA!but i will say that this is a forum for learning and sharing ideas thats how most people learn. Not every one has the same level of acomplishments as you THINK YOU HAVE.I can't speak for any one else but i don't think this is the place for that kind of humor, certain forms of humer are just plain rude and this in my opinion is one of them and has no place on this forum. And with that said i'm over it!

I don't think it was meant as an insult to the forum. Its just a spoof of the "RTFM" comment most IT personnel mumbly under their breath when dealing with some users. It might offend some folks (though I've heard much worse watching the Sopranos). In light of that let me offer the following warning

If you are offended by harsh words then please do not follow the link provided by Aware. Thank you

(perhaps Aware should have stated something like this in his post ????) As for the question of "does this post belong here?"

ah..well...

I think it's hilarious...great link Aware! But then the sig I've been using for quite some time could have told you my sentiments on reading the instructions...

And I don't know about people who are terribly offended by so-called "bad" words...they must not get out much, or watch tv, or do anything else for that matter...it's all just language, the individual gives it the power to offend them...

Everyone here is an adult and this ridiculous, politically-correct, overly sensitive crap that has become so pervasive in our crumbling society is part of the problem...frivolous lawsuits because someone had their precious feelings hurt, gimme a break...

If you don't want to see foul language, I recommend the following sites:

NO hiredgoonz it did not hurt my precious feelings but it could hurt someone else's.I had the feeling that this forum had somthing others did not it's called TACT & wisdom & yes i get out a lot and seen more crap than you'll see in a life time.I spent 9 months in the bush with nothing to talk to but my damned rifle just waiting to pop some idiot in the head before he poped me, so it takes a lot to hurt my preciouse little feelings.

Fussy old broad's opinion. It's not a matter of hurting my feelings or even offending...but I just don't like finding myself accidently at a Website with bad language or sleazy (to me) pics. We like action movies, and it's not like I don't use the occasional effing word myself..but on the Net, it just gives me a bad case of the grims to find myself on one of those pages. And recent posts about the stuff that hangs in your puter doesn't make me feel any better. So, my request would be the warning that Ghost posted before the posted link...cuz I never seem to learn. Provide a link and I will click on it every time...duh.

I think Kay hit it right about the warning of adult-natured material. I see folks in other forums put the warning there for off-color jokes and such.

I wasn't suggesting that this had hurt your feelings...Yoda, you made it clear that you were "over it" in your post...but I think it is ridiculous to expect not to unexpectedly hear or see such language...

My question is: do you also expect people in public to warn you before they use a "curse" word?

And if you use the words that appear at that page, why would it bother you to find yourself looking at them?

This isn't a link to a virus or a page with racial or religious slurs...it's a spoof of a M$ support article that happens to use the "F" word one time and the words a$$ and bitch...

Adult-natured??? Off color??? A warning about harsh language??? I think the whole debate is absurd...

Chill Yoda; i'm usually the one here known as the Hot head! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

It is true that their should have been a warning, ( i try to give some when i post possible objectionable material) but this is the appropiate place for this topic.

And boy do i find it Hilarious!!!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

You really have to be in IT to fully appreciate this!! ( or run a local 'puter shop ).

But surely this item must be seen in context. I too abhore gratuitous use of the F word - but in this particular case there would have been no item without it, IMHO.

C'mon guys. All they were asking for was to be warned in advanced so they didn't have to click on it and be surprised. It doesn't matter if it was funny or if it's something they hear everyday or not. Let's give them some respect, it's something that should be done w/o asking anyways, imo.

Hi Guys, Wanted to stay out of this one but...

I can see all points of view on this one.
Aware posted a link to a pretty funny article with the intention of doing nothing more than amusing the good people of this forum.
As I have said this article was funny and I laughed at it, even though I could possibly be at the receiving end of a few RTFM's http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Having said that, this is one of the few sites that I feel totaly comfortable with when my kids are hovering around me, as they often are.
I enjoy the freedom of not having to look over my shoulder to make sure their eyes don't see anything I consider inappropriate.

I think the point that Yoda is making is that he believed this site was free from this type of lanuage and not whether it was offensive or not to him.

I recently read a post where Pete asked someone to remove a certain word from their sig. The word was t**s (Breasts). I was pleased about that. It instilled a feeling of confidence in the integrity of this forum.

Perhaps Yoda also read that post and acted in a fashion that he felt was for the good of the forum.

Yoda I have called you he/him in this post, please correct me if you are a she/her http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Well Now! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

I certainly didn't mean to cause all this excitement heh

I did actually Consider a Warning , but I thought that people here would be mature enough to handle it, and see it for what it was, a joke, so I desided it really wasnt needed
Guess I was wrong.

I have a house full of kids, but rarely are they staring at the screen when Im reading a post on this forum. Even if they were, I wouldnt and truely 'couldn't posibly' shield them from these kinds of things.

My 10 year old knows that word for sure, if he ever will speak it, is another story.

At any rate, Im sure all the IT guys/gals round here got the "JOKE" whole heartedly lmao

Next time 'if there is a next time' Ill add the warning.

Sorry to anyone that 'may or may not have been' offended.

I did however believe that this was the exact place something like this belonged? or do we all have a stick up our *censored* ? <- sorry, but really.

I truely do mean to say I'm (and truely am) sorry if I offend anyone, I just really cant see how or why it is so offensive the more I think about it, are we adults? or is this a beanie baby web site?

Next, I guess someone will tell me I can't fart anymore while Im reading the posts. heh

Geez, try to crack a joke........... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I can tell jokes all day long (unfortunately) about Jews, Blacks, Gays, etc. That doesn't make them funny.

I have a standard when it comes to humor. If I myself could have made it up while drunk, its probably not funny. The link does not pass that test.

OK...

I must admit it was good for a chuckle or two, however...

As most of you know profanity is one of the things I've always been pickiest about. We have people here from all over the world...every walk of life, every religion, age, occupation, you name it, it's represented here at one time or another. I doubt if the pastor of a church would find the link humorous at all, or the language. Or many other people. The point is to be considerate of others' sensibilities. Some people WOULD have their kids in view of the screen, knowing this forum is usually free of profanity.

Then there's the agreement each of you accepted when registering your user names, which states in part:

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. You agree not to post any copyrighted material. All postings submitted become the property of the owners of the forum.

And that's the bottom line. It's specifically stated in the registration agreement, profanity is a violation of that agreement. I don't worry much about the occasional dammit, I see no reason to be that strict, but I've always been very particular about maintaining the forums in a manner suitable for anyone, regardless of age, religion, etc.

The link will be disabled as soon as I finish posting this, I feel it is not appropriate for the PC Guide Discussion Forums. Something with a word or two somewhere in the text might not be a big problem, but when the title of the page in large bold text is something of this nature, I don't think it should stay.

A couple of the comments that have been made in this topic demonstrate the reason for my position.

We've developed a reputation for integrity here, in addition to the actual computer tech support being reliable, and nobody really expects something like this to pop up. I prefer to keep it that way.
