Agree, but you could have picked a song that I know a few more words to. I will now be doing the "me and Julio down by the schoolyard" over and over for hours. Think I will try Henry the 8th instead..know more words.
Actually, I know most of the words for Henry the 8th..and am singing now.

Okay, you know what is worse than having a song stuck in your head? It's not being able to remember a song. Does anyone remember a song..something about "the sheriff says to me, you better get out boy" or something similar? Thought it too was a Simon & Garfunkel..but not sure..and going mad here racking feeble brain.

Edit: Nevermind, brain hard drive finally spun up. The one driving me nuts was "Keep the Customer Satisfied" and lyrics here (http://www.actx.edu/~sapper_ng/customer.htm).

I immediately thought of Bob Dylan's 115th Dream (http://bobdylan.com/songs/115dream.html) and felt the sudden need to find the lyrics ASAP.

But the catchiest song of all time is Tom's Diner (http://www.vega.net/solitude.htm#tom). That diddy is downright infectious! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Did you catch the typo in the link I posted? "heading into ore"?? Took me a couple of minutes singing to myself to realize should have been "heading into war"..lol. Reminded me of how I sang Jingle Bells for a long long time in my life until I realized that "one horse soap and sleigh" made no sense! I've always liked Neil Diamond's "Reverend Blue Jeans"!

An additional thought: Perhaps this is way many folks whistle or hum tunes? Ever had one of those experiences where you're singing away and some one publicly corrects a 30 year old fondly held lyric? ARGH! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

OK, here's a musical blunder for you; way back when i was in college i heard this awesome song called" Dirty Laundry "; now being an early Metalhead ( when i was sober and lucent that is http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif ) i just knew that this was some heavy rocking band like AC-DC or such, ( show's you how messed up i sometimes got http://community.theunderdogs.org/smiley/misc/disturbed.gif ) and it wasn't until years later that my wonderful intelligent wife over heard me singing one day ( she still complains about that! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif ) that she told me that she didn't realize i was a Don Hennely(sp?) fan!

Well, imagine my shock and indignation! Some little Pop music icon singing such an awesome toon! No Way!!

Well, to make a long story short, i did a little research and finally realized my age long error. But, who would have guessed!? An Eagle ?! singing such a song!

i was just using that as broad phrase; you'd have to remember the mind set i had over 30 years ago, anything that FM radio played as a top 40 i, and my friends, considered POP.

Totally agree that they are a great Rock band-i also still love to listen to Little River Band, but back in the '70's if you listened to that Southern rock we ( my friends and i ) you a Hick.

Now-a-days i enjoy them as well as Jazz, and great musicians like Yanni-just goes to show you how your tastes change as times go by.

You know what group I absolutely love and yet nobody in the world seems to know who they are? They are from Canada and are called The Tea Party. They are super-popular here in Canada and overseas. I don't know how popular they are in the US, but they deserve to be mentioned.

I recommend anyone to pick up any of their CD's and enjoy. A few songs I can think of off the top of my head that are outstanding (in my books) are:

~Sun Going Down
~Sister Awake
~Drawing Down the Moon
~Psychopomp
~The Messanger
~Shadows on the Mountainside

...man...too many to name off.

Please check them out and see what you think. If I had to compare them to anyone, I would say they resemble a slight mix of Led Zeppelin and The Doors with a heavier edge and many Eastern influences. To me, they are in a class all their own.

You won't be disappointed.

OH BOY....this turned into another music thread???

Nothing wrong with that!

The thing I find about alot of present day music is that it is so damn depressing...even the love songs sound like somebody died...especially alot of the more recent female vocalists (why can't they sound like Stevie Nicks...), or the cookie cutter, syrup that the made for stardom boy-bands (can they really be called that???) put out, Give me Southern Rock over that any day....as I sit here typing this I've got this runnig through my head.....

You should have seen by the look in my eyes, maybe there was something missing....(maybe that has something to do with the fact that I spent a part of tonight putting some of my vinyl onto CD...hmmm....)

And then to get them mp3 or wav to CD I just use Nero....

Up Against the Wall Redneck...Jerry Jeff Walker, fellow Texan. (Austin) Also wrote Mr. Bojangles, but usually it's the version recorded by The Band that gets played on radio. Another good one was L.A. Freeway. Jerry Jeff has written several hits forother people.

Another writer that has written a bunch of great songs is John Hiatt. (Confidence Man and Angel Eyes recorded by Jeff Healey, Riding With the King-Eric Clapton and BB King and one of Bonnie Raitt's biggest songs that I can't remember right now...among others) Hiatt was one of a group of people who sat in cubicles and churned out songs for record companies in the 60's/70's. Carole King was one of the same group. Both eventually decided to go out on their own, but Carole King had a much better solo career than John Hiatt did.

One of my old favorite underdog bands is City Boy, a British band in the 70's & 80's. "5705" was their only song that got any airplay, but the "Dinner at the Ritz" album was...well, I wore out 3 copies...

Same for the Sutherland Brothers and Quiver, "Dream Kid" album. After 25 years I still listen to both...

Whatever happened to some of those bands? Blue Cheer, Atomic Rooster, Mahogany Rush, Greenslade, Crack the Sky, Moby Grape, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Frigid Pink, Lemon Pipers...

And then of course, I gotta plug Van Wilks (http://www.vanwilks.com)...I wake up humming "Boystown" quite often...

Make sure and stop by kissthisguy.com (http://www.kissthisguy.com/) and see what the actual lyrics are for some of those oldies that you've been singing wrong all these years.

'Scuse me, while I kiss the sky...

Naw...ain't funny. Almost certainly a 16-bit card on the HP. I found that I ended up with somewhat muddy sound when I used a 16-bit input. After running it to ground, it turns out that the quantization error leaves you with only about 14 to 14.5 equivalent bits of data, with numerical errors piling up on top (if you do any pop/click removal or noise processing).

When/as/if you get a chance, find a card with at least 18 bits of A/D on the input. They are becoming much more reasonably priced than they were a couple of years ago. It will do more for the audio quality than all of the processing in the world. On the other hand, if you're satisfied with the result...then you're done! Either way, it's still cool to resurrect some of the old timey stuff. I also have some locally-recorded folk music that will never be available on CD, anyway.

N.B. - if you're converting to mp3, sometimes you can't hear the input bitwidth difference, anyway, due to the perceptual encoding algorithms. On the other hand, if the induced quantization noise becomes too broadband, it can be enhanced by the conversion.

Yep, told hubby about King of the Road post, and he informed me of all the "wrong" lyrics..lol. Oh well, pleased me to sing it regardless.

The reason that I have not posted on "music" threads is because I will admit that I have no taste. The "I don't know art..I just know what I like" applies to my favorite music. I like music ranging from Beethoven's 5th to Dolly Parton's Nine to Five..from Gordon Lightfoot's ballads to Ina Godda De Vida (spelling??). With Beethoven as an exception, I like almost any song that I can "hear" the lyrics and that "moves" pretty fast. Do seem to be stuck in a time period though...don't like very many recent songs.

LOL, yawningdog! Love Google cuz one can put a snatch of song vaguely remembered and find the actual lyrics. This time didn't get to actual lyrics, but have laughed my way through many "wrong" ones, here (http://www.amiright.com/misheard/artist/millersteve.shtml) and here (http://www.mindspring.com/~shand/jetzone.html).

And this excerpt from an article about songs considered in poor taste after 9-11. "The "banned" songs ranged from the ludicrous -- the aforementioned "Fire & Rain," John Lennon's "Imagine" -- to the absurd, like "Big Old Jet Airliner" by the Steve Miller Band. (The absurdity of the latter is not that a song about a jet airliner might have seemed in poor taste following the attack, in which planes were used as weapons, but that it actually sounds like the dude is singing "Big ol' Jed had a light on.")"

After reading through the above links..."had a light on" is very mild compared to what others "heard".

"methinks you're too easily impressed"...no, I don't think so, Paul. We live in a world where often people just do "enough" to get by, and many times don't take time to help others or make others just smile.

Whyzman: I am touched. (See? Can do puns too!)

Sea: Sniff..I repeat what I said. Haven't words to cover "warm glow"...thanks, so cool and so thoughtful.

You guys are so talented, intelligent, and AWESOME. Grasshopper is so grateful to hang around with you all.
