My husband and I watched the Addams Family again the other night. I really like their motto on the family crest:
"We gladly feast on those who would subdue us."

Heard of the onion, but haven't been in quite awhile. Usually just barely keep all my plates spinning as it is..time wise.
Curious though..does "hobit" have anything to do with hobbit? Just finished re-reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy last night. Sam is my favorite character.
And, not to turn this into a book thread, but mjc I re-read the Magic of Xanth a couple of months ago. Think I prefer the Blue Adept trilogy though.

It's a good motto kay. But if you don't want a book thread - which looks a possibility - how about a "create a family motto" thread. Mine might be "Beware of idols; if they fall they can crush you". http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif And brownie-points for one containing onions. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I did have hobbit in mind just not the correct spelling of it.
Have you read the Deptford Trilogy? It’s been years, but I remember reading it pretty much straight through.

1000 books!...totally green with envy. Our local library is smaller than my kitchen, so not much treasure there, but we don't have room for 1000 books even so...dang. Already starting to overflow bookcases. Recently discovered bookstores on the Net that sell out of print books...cool! Beloved may be taking away my credit card soon. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif (On the other hand, he just ordered over $200 worth of puter parts...so? I can buy a LOT of older books for $200..lol.)
Thanks, Hobit, will check that book out. Don't remember reading it. And not to worry about spelling. I used to be pretty good at spelling..but those days are gone..alas. Now I look at some words and they just look wrong. Good thing we have spelling checkers, huh? I could sure use a "left out a word" checker, though. Do that a lot lately.

yeh, my wife complained about all the book cases in the house; so i built an extnesion onto the house just for my library-i've got wall to wall cases ( also ceiling to floor ) full of sci-fi & fanatasy and some mystery, horror ( like Laurel K. hamilton, King, Rice, Kootnz, etc.. ) I've still got my old collection of '80's Tom swift ( evern some from the '70's, and the 20's, 30's, 40-50's. ), Nancy drew, just ton's of material.
Even got the entire Zane grey collection and a bunch of Max Brands ( though i've never actually read the brands ).
Oh, yeh-one entire case of PC book's. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
One of these days i keep telling myself i'm gonna use Access to create a data base of my collection so i'll know just what all in the heck i really have! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif

My "dream" library..wow. Always wanted an actual room with bookcases everywhere..so cool. Next time you're in that room, take a deep "smell" for me. Love the smell of books.
Hobit: Thanks for link..will check it out.

For you kay;Sniff!!-ahhhh, the smell of literacy! { and imagination! } http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif
I usually jump on any new tech, but i look at this electronic book thing with mixed feelings. I mean, how can you get comfortable with a metal { or polymer } case in your easy chair?! or under your fav tree?!
Hmph, think i prefer the written/bound word myself-that little tv screen just aint the same.
by the way, i'm mostly into military sci-fi, tho i do have an abundance of fantasy too. I also have a pretty rare collection; the entire set of Robert Adam's horseclan's { all 18 and the 2 companion's }-not something you can find anymore , i've seen incomplete set's on Ebay go for outrageous sums, and i've never been able to find anyone on the net with another complete set. ther used to be a couple of sites dedicated to the 'clans series, don't know if they still are. have to dig thru my bookmarks and see if i can find them again. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
Oh, wait! found it!!
Horseclan's (http://enphilistor.users4.50megs.com/horse.htm)- all you need to know!

Interestingly, the paper companies were initially poised for a decreasing demand for paper as computers began to proliferate. Instead, the demand for paper has dramatically increased attesting to a human need to interact with Mother Nature. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
I print up all kinds of stuff I find on the net so I can take it with me to read elsewhere.

My husband and I read every night after retiring. Hard to imagine that with some electronic gizmo..he drops off before me, and the sound of his gentle snoring puts me right out. Very home-y..and nice, you know? Plus, I collect books too. Have all the Matt Helm books, Travis McGee, only one short on Dirk Pitt (for husband mostly, although I like Cussler too..just have to skip over some passages extolling Pitt's prowess..), all of Alan Dean Foster's novels, etc and etc. I look at my books and I feel "rich". Don't think I could get that feeling from a set of disks or whatever. We have plans for building onto house, and I will get my library someday. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Also, Whyzman, I agree wholeheartedly especially when it comes to puter stuff. We NEED it printed out so we can refer to it when the puter is ailing. It's a real fuss of mine that so much puter stuff comes without any real manual..have to access the CD to get any help. My scanner had zip for a manual, and then when go to Help in the scanner software, I found the page that said "if you're having problems with the flatbed driver, don't install it". Yeah, okay...like I could know that before I got the stuff installed??? My request of whoever would be that instead of using all that paper to stuff our bills with ads and debris, they could print up slightly more comprehensive manuals. A bit more than "plug it in, turn it on, and hope for the best" would be nice.
