In the weekly magazine in our local paper there was an article about towns with strange names. Some were 'Truth or Consequences N.M.','Toad Suck AR.'
and 'Smut Eye AL.' we here in Mississippi have 'Whynot' and 'Hot Coffee'
What ones are close to you?
Also I started a new job today after being off since Oct. 25. It is with a company that fills vending machines in offices and factories. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif it promises to be a good job even though I have to drive 50 miles to get to work I am okay with that. I'll be driving when I work anyway. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I used to get a weekly email from www.uselessknowledge.com. (http://www.uselessknowledge.com.) Lots of interesting and, er, useless stuff. I remember a few weeks in a row they listed a few interesting US (http://www.uselessknowledge.com/trivia/town.shtml) and unusual Canadian (http://www.uselessknowledge.com/canada/town.shtml) town names.

According to the Rand McNally map here in Texas we have:
Antelope, Bald Prarie, Beaver Dam, Bee Cave, Bee House, Ben Hur, Bigfoot, Black Jack, Blue, Bogata, Bonanza, Bon Weir (not far from me), Cap Rock, Cee Vee, Cestohowa, Chalk, China Grove (Doobie Brothers' song), Circle, Circle Back (30 miles apart), Dobrowolski, Electric City, Flo, Gay Hill...and I'm not unfolding it to get at the rest of the index...
Want to see some strange town names, get a map of Luoisiana and look in the very southern portion of the state. I've lived there, and the creole or cajun residents, (who call themselves coon-asses on occasion) are great people, but some of the town names are definitely out of the ordinary.
Thibideaux, La Place (pronounced la-ploss), Grosse Tete (pr. gross-tet), Opelousas...and then there's Waterproof...Log Cabin...Belcher...Tickfaw...I've been through most of these, by the way...and have relatives who live in Log Cabin.

Hey Pete, Wisconsin has a Beaver Dam as well!
We also have Pardeeville, location of national watermelon seed spitting contest and at one time the drug capital of the state.

Fixrupr,
Heavens no! Just trying to be helpful! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
I thought maybe that your city/town in Wales was an inadvertent keyboard error. Nothing personal!
Thanks for the link! That stuff is fantastic on a fried Spam sandwich!
One use they failed to mention was for insulating. In a pinch, if a body is short on the foam product, this stuff works well and doesn't expand at all and therefore causes no distress to structural components. I personally see a liability issue as the miasma could definitely attract rodents. Doraphobics would then initiate a class action suit. The foreseeable legal conundrum and defense costs that could result would preclude any admission by Kraft that they are even aware of any alternate usage of their product. I digress....
I saw no scatological inferences in the naming of their product. Anything of a uric nature would more than likely be naturally present. And, existing in such a miniscule amount that it is not required by law to disclose. To promulgate such a link would be pure dribble when so much depends on the imagination of the consumer. Any association with my choice of moniker would be purely coincidental...other than the fact that it is an excellent and apparently "multifaceted" product!
Did I say that? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif Pure Genius! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I've seen a lot of fellow Alabamians on these boards. Diurnal, I was just in Wetumpka this past Sunday - both my parents grew up there, and I went to wish my grandmother a happy birthday, and to see some relatives from Sac City, Iowa who were there paying a visit. Small world, heh? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
I'm suprised you didn't mention an unusually named town very close to us:
Slapout, AL
Interesting fact: Midway, AL was so named because it is midway between Miami, FL and Chicago, IL.
Here's some more in Alabama. A few of these are unincorporated communities...
Allgood, Blues Old Stand, Bobo, Butts Mill, Crudup, Equality, Fishtrap Ford, Fleahop, Possum Trot, Pineapple & Pumpkin Center.

Humpty-Doo, Northern Territory.
If you want some strange place names then you should pick up "The Meaning of Liff" (or "The Deeper Meaning of Liff") by Douglas Adams. It uses unusual place names in a comical dictionary and gives them strange definitions.
