I read in a book "A+ Certification For Dummies" about cleaning keyboards that you could actually put them in the dishwasher and run them through without the soap and cool dry. So I trash picked a computer last week with a keyboard that had taken bath in some red sticky kids drink. Half of the keys didn't work so I think what do i have to lose and throw the keyboard in the dishwasher. When it was done I dumped out the water and set it next to the heater to dry for 3 days to make very sure the it was really dry and then hooked it up to an old computer and it worked great no problem. Is this crazy or what being that water and electronics are very incompatible. I have to say I tested it on an old computer just in case. Didn't want to burn up my good computer.
disclaimer -- you try it your on your own.

What is crazy is this: http://forum.ocworkbench.com/ocwbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=27&t=003237

Basically, some guy "water proofed" his motherboard, stuck it under water and turned on the power. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Haven't seen any pictures yet so not sure if this is possible.

I do this kind of thing all the time. I do circuit board repair for a vending machine company and that stuff gets coated with everything from soda to salt water.

We simply soak the circuit board in an ultrasonic cleaner filled with vinegar, and then rinse off the vinegar with hot water. Water does tend to corrode the more ferrous metals and of course it generally conducts and shorts out a lot of components if power is applied.

Incidentally, distilled water is actually an insulator. Its not until minerals are dissolved into the water that it becomes a conductor.
