Hi Guys,
Easy topic for you's. what's the best game you have ever played, on any format............Mine would be the Age of Empires series for the PC.(I'm not much of a gameplayer, as you can probably tell!!)
This topic was suggested by my 13 year old son, and his favourite game in GTA3 for PS2.
I think it will be quite interesting to see what games all you guru's play.
Many thanks.

Games I play years after their release....

Falcon 4
EF2000
747 flight simulator used by pilots.It's not big on eye candy but a great "game" as it allows you to take the her from gate to gate.
Flight unlimted 3
Myst (got both the old and new 3d versions, not a lot of action but I love this game anyway.)
Sport car GT (forgot about this one, it may be replaced by World sport car when it comes out.)

Still have an Atari 2600 and a load of games, but it's collecting dust now. All my games nowadays are of course played on the 'puter.

* Max Payne
* NHRA 2 Drag Racing
* Need for Speed III
* Redline Racer
* Myst
* Riven
* Bunch of different Sims, too numerous to mention
* Real Pool 3D
* Driver
* FS98
* Jane's Combat Simulations F-15
* Half Life - Day One
* Unreal Tournament

I want to get Age of Empires, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and a bunch of those other popular shootem up games. Can't remember all the titles now. Hell to get old.

Over the years,

1. LLamatron on the old Atari (sort of space invaders thing where LLamas shot the rockets out of their a*s)
2. EF2000 on my own or on the network
3. Formula 1 (the original on Atari)
4. Coolboarders on the Psx
5. Quake 1,2 and 3 by muself or on the network with my son and friends. One of the best games ever!!
6. Tomb Raider on the Psx
7. Gran Turismo on the Psx
8. The Sims, just got hooked on this. It is my daughters game so even though I cant admit to buying it I will admit to playing it.

I'm certainly no oldie, but I have been gaming since I was 7 and I am 27 now. 20 years of gaming...where does the time go? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Some of my absolute favorites:

For the Atari 2600:

Mario Bros.
Yar's Revenge
Crystal Castles
Grand Prix

For the NES:

NES Open (golf)
Bionic Commando
Contra
Final Fantasy
Golgo 13
Dragon Warrior
Zelda and Link
Castlevania 2
Blaster Master
Metal Gear
Snake's Revenge

Super Nintendo:

Sim City
Zelda: Link to the Past
Waialae Golf
Demon's Crest
Mortal Kombat 2
Final Fantasy 3
Chrono Trigger

Playstation:

FF VII
NHL 98
Metal Gear Solid
Resident Evil 1&2
Tony Hawk 1&2
NFL Gameday 99
Command and Conquer: Red Alert

PC:

Unreal Tournament
Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun
Age of Empires 2
Age of Wonders
Diablo 2
Counterstrike

Strange...my favorite games seem to lay within the NES days. Man, those were the days of GOOD gaming! Those games STILL kick butt today! The graphics may not be 3D or amazing, but they were amazing at the time.

I still remember when I bought my NES. I couldn't afford the one that came with a game, so I had to rent games for a month until I owned my first game. I remember to this day running to the video store to rent Bionic Commando and Castlevania: Simon's Quest. Man, memories!

Thanks for starting this thread! Now I'm all teary-eyed for my long-lost youth! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Atari: Laser Blast, Yar's Revenge, Haunted House (although Octopus is awesome, I didn't discover it until I started using the 2600 emulator)
NES: Metroid or Mega Man 2
SNES: Street Fighter 2
N64: Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time

and my current favorite (bought a used Dreamcast just to play it) CRAZY TAXI

Want to get GTA3 when it comes out for the PC, with my computer hobby I just can't justify $200-$300 for a console that won't get much use so I'm not into the newer games as much...

Woah, kayden azagthoth, thanx for reminding me of the NES classics! I LOVED Contra2 and Blaster Master! They were the best! I also remember playing a used version of a quirky little game called Balloon Fight, towards the end of my NES days. Then, my NES broke and my game playing blossomed with the SNES...

SNES

FFIII
FFII
Secret of Mana
Secret of Evermore
Crono Trigger
Sim City
Mario World

N64

Golden Eye
Perfect Dark
Super Smash Bros

PC

Starcraft/Broodwar
AOE series
Total Anhilation
Quake II
NOLF (Austin Powers shooter, baby!)

Favorite game of all time: Fallout/FO2. Mad Max RPG, darn it all if that ain't more fun than eating a box of cheesy puffs! If there's one sequel that keeps me up at night waiting, it's got to be Fallout3!

By the way, kayden azagthoth, just ordered UT (for PC) and thinking about getting UT2 this summer. How is it? Good game? Good game for multiplayer?

UT is awesome...I'm so addicted I joined a clan (team) and compete in league play http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

What kind of connection will you be using? Cable/DSL is best, but there is life for 56k'ers with a mod called zero-ping (ZP). Basically levels the playing field for dialups to us lower-pinging types.

Come back when you get it and I'll point you to some tweak sites and online gameplay info.

Chrono Trigger HAS to be the best game for the SNES...there are a bunch of Japanese games that were never released here, so I can't comment on those, but I think CT really pushed the limits of what that console can do...

Good to know that UT is well worth it, got it for a bargain at $10 + shipping (couldn't find it locally) but I should have ordered it overnight! I ordered from EBGames, which I have found to be good, but if you take their cheapest shipping they take forever! Ordered it Monday, still 'processing'. How long can it take to throw a PC game into a shipping box and have FedEx pick it up in bulk with all the other orders??

Anyway, got a friend who's hooking me up cheap with 2 network cards, gonna get an ethernet hub, then it's on to AT&T broadband, baby! Either cable or xDSL, haven't decided yet, but I gotta get the 'rents to straighten it out. (The deal was I get them online with me and they pay for the broadband.) Probably be another month or so, but at this rate I'll be hooked up with broadband before UT comes, $&#*^!! Sorry, I get impatient with me games...

Oh and yes, I agree, Crono Trigger is the best console RPG or game I've ever played. Of course, I got into Starcraft before the PSX's FF games could hook me http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif. Once I tasted what even 800 x 600 in 256 colors could do on a 15" monitor, I never looked back! And don't even mention first-person shooters, no console gamer will ever be able to beat a PC gamer (unless the console gets an optical mouse...)!

Still, even tho I don't buy into the console thing anymore, I snagged me a Game Boy Advance to play old-school RPG's again, from the NES and SNES era. Another month and I can budget Breath of Fire, been getting into Golden Sun lately, excellent game for those who loved 8-bit and 16-bit RPG's and are looking for a new format. The GBA went down to $70 recently, and paying for an AC adapter keeps me at home, NOT spending $$$$ on batteries!

Well, back to NOLF. I think I'm getting better at sniping... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif

F1-Built to win for NES has got to be my favorite game. Spent many a weekend (up all weekend) racin and buildin better cars just to go blow all my winnings in Vegas.
Wish I could find an updated version of that game. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

well , i started playin games just abt 10 yrs ago, at dat time, here in india , there were those 8 bit consoles - media,atari etc.

i was in primary school and my mom came with lunch-box as i wasnt well that day, she told me "dat uncle delivered yor game today" ... and i went straight to my class teacher seeking permission to go home .... as i wasnt well (oh dat was just an xcuse). i gazed at the game waiting for dad to return form office in the evening coz he was the only one who knew how to start it(i was very young to play with all those cables, although i learned "which cable goes where" on dat very day ... smart me http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif)

my very first console was "media" and i was one of the lucky few among my friends and family to have a video-game (it was gifted to me by a very generous uncle) and the very first game i played was "bomber man". the cartridge had a namesake 83 games... it had only 6 games in all outta which 3 were those "gun-games" (which i wasnt able to play coz i didnt have a gun http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif )

some of my favourite games:-
battle city (which i and my sis used to play for hours on end, v used a strategy- she would handle the enemies near the "eagle" and me from where they were "born" ... brave me) http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

mario and contra - u wont believe it, but i was an expert at playing these two. i would pass the entire contra with just 3 lives and i was the one who taught all my cousins how to master "mario" (although i still havent passed the last "dragon" and all my cousins have done it hundreds of times ... poor me http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif )

mario brothers - well no offence to the creator of "mario bros" but me and my brother changed the aim of the game ..... instead of killing the ducks .... v tried to kill each other by pushing each-other on the ducks,spiders, flies , that flying green ball.and i m very very very sure none can beat either of us at that.

..... then came the age of computer games .....

tomb raider, fighting-force, half-life, quake,NFS and the latest Max Payne(my fav) - but u dont get the same amt of happiness, that feeling of completeness, after playing these hi-fi 3D games.

.... and yes i m only 18.

The best games I've ever played are Fallout 1, Fallout 2 and Planescape: Torment. I can't decide which is the best one...

The stories of all are really good especially Torment's. I've taken backups of the CDs and put them in a wallsafe (I am serious about the wallsafe) in case something happens.

I would have to say Deus Ex, Medal of Honor, Return to Wolfenstein, and Unreal tourney on Pc. PS one would have to be FF8, Silent Hill, Tekken 3, and Gran Turismo 2. Dreamcast would have to be Shenmue all the way.
However.... here are the ALL time games.

Contra, Zelda, Final Fantasy III, Joust, Kung Fu, Ice Breaker, Street Fighter, Doom, Double Dragon, Final Fantasy III, Streets of Rage and Final Fantasy III.

Atari 2600: H.E.R.O. - why doesn't anyone else remember this game?

Amiga 500: Turrican

Sega Megadrive: Ghouls 'n' Ghosts

SNES: Secret of Mana

Saturn: Saturn Bomberman

N64: Perfect Dark

Dreamcast: Gauntlet Legends

PC: Well I've been playing a single game of Diablo2 (with a cold magic Sorceress) for 2 months now across 3 different computers? Is that normal?

Honourable mention: Civilisation III

I find it interesting no-one has mentioned "The Sims" yet it's supposed to be the most popular game ever - is it worth getting?

The favs:

Apple IIc:
Bard's Tale 3; just found a version for the PC. Take a game that was designed 15 years ago, put it on a fast PC and WOW - it still looks like crap. Worth it for the nostaglia though...

PC:
GTA & GTA2
Thief: a game where fighting is the surest way to get your butt kicked
Carmageddon 1 & 2: run over other cars, people, elephants, you name it
Max Payne
Wolfenstein 3D (DOS baby!): how about those 3d graphics!
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
DukeNukem
Quake II
Driver
Half Life - Blue Shift was kinda lame, though...

Honarable mention:
Sin: if you can get past the 35 patches it needs to run...
Redneck Rampage: dumb but it has its moments

lets see....
nes: tecmo super bowl
snes: never owned one but uncharted waters can be addicting
psx: smackdown 2; thps 2,3; fifa 2002, triple play 2000, nba live 2002; syphon filter (i need to collect the syphon filters)
