First, I would like to ask if anyone has actually found the "any" key on their keyboard. If so, did it actually "continue"? I have been blessed in that I rarely get a BSOD..but when I do, I have never found the "any" key.

Never found the "ANY" key. I've collected many a keyboard over the years, and surprisingly, they are missing it as well.

I finaly gave up on my search, when a more pressing keybord problem arose. How do I press F1 to continue, when the computer detects a keyboard error?

Kay,

I've found the solution...since I never could find the ANY KEY either, I just rebooted. However, I found that if I just press the ENTER key I get the same results! It was purely accidental that I discovered this amazing substitute! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif Hope this is useful!

Cool..can use the Enter key..a bit faster, yes? Still, though, makes me wonder why M$ worded the message that way. Did their techs ever get the any key to work? Worked one time in 450 zillion times? Another question is..what's after trillion? Gazillion?

Kay,

I actually popped the "ENTER" key off and had a look under it...I thought maybe they installed it upside down and perhaps it would read "ANY KEY!" http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Kay The best substitute for the anykey that I have found so far is a 4pound hammer! Works a treat! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

On your other question, I think the preferred term is quadrillion, but it becomes easier to use the multipliers

kilo- 1000^1
mega- 1000^2
giga- 1000^3
tera- 1000^4
peta- 1000^5
exa- 1000^6
zetta- 1000^7
yotta- 1000^8

I was assured that the last three are actually official too. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Geese, do you guys have any idea how many times this subject has been brought up at IT pro meetings across the country!!??? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

Every time i go to some IT seminar there is alway's the suggestion to add an " any " key to standard keyboard layout's for the users that are supported, i understand the there has even been several letter's written to logitech about this.

Last seminar i attended in Nashville, TN there was a vendor selling bags of the " any " key's-and was making a killing! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I tried to talk our finace dept. into allocating some cash for this " hardware " upgrade; nogo tho-even though it's usually one of their " users " { cuss word in IT } who has a problem with finding the " any " key! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

I did however by a few to put on my folks, and other relatives keyboards; saves me no end of headaches when trouble shooting their system's over the phone adn i tell them to press the " any " key!

LOL..Whyzman. Only thing is that I am using an "antique" keyboard, so not gonna be popping off the Enter key to look underneath.

"Yotta", David..? Doesn't quite sound credible.

iisbob: It's probably human nature to wonder about this kind of thing. With the wording of the BSOD message, it sounds like someone, somewhere, at some point was able to get the "any key to continue". And so, a faint implication that one is inept or ignorant if can't get it to work. I was actually semi-serious in my question... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif But think now probably is in same category as putting 110 mph on my old Pontiac's speedometer. Was a four cylinder POS (little T-1000) and the only way that it would have ever gone 110 mph would have had to include things like "only down a long long long hill" and "with a STRONG tailwind" and "maybe add a turbo jet." That last rings a faint bell..they did that in some movie we watched.

I heard the "any" key was a combination on two keys, the "n" and "e", if you hit them together fast enough i think u get the "n","e" key. Thats justa rumour ive heard anyway.
