Hi there, I'm new around here.
I was working in the member support department of a local internet company, and found myself jobless when the economy tanked.
I'm back in school now and working on my IT degree. I began school a dozen years ago with the aim of being a programmer, but I got derailed and left school.
Now I have the opportunity to complete my degree, and would like to ask some basic questions of those more knowledgeable than me:
1.) I enjoyed programming when last I studied it, but I am not really a "techie" or a "geek." I really enjoy my computer, but given the choice, I'd rather read fiction than an industry mag, and I couldn't tell you, without looking, what sound card my home PC has. Will this hinder my ability to succeed as a C++ programmer? A friend mentionedin passing that programmers don't really need all that much hardware knowledge.
2.) I plan to complete my degree in two years. Is C++ still the direction for me to go?
I appreciate any considerate feedback and input.
