View Full Version : Hackers - 80% bs?
I am wondering about the 1995 movie "Hackers". I have heard that it is 80% bull, little of they do is reallistic and it is just a regular Hollywood drama. True?

I asked a tech about the movie, because I too thought movie was cool. Plus, was totally green with envy the way their fingers flew over the keys and all these interesting things happened! Anyway, he said that much of the movie was not that accurate..but then, what does one expect from Hollywood?
Please pardon me for piggybacking on your thread, but we're now into the summer dry season (pun for us here in thirsty New Mexico) for entertainment, and I was hoping that some of you with access to theaters might have some good sci fi, or action, movies to recommend for those of us in boonie towns with one video store that doesn't alphabetize (but has a nice young woman running it who knows where everything is). Have they made any good movies recently? Our young woman says that AI is "depressing"...so I didn't order it yesterday. ??

BS? OH YEH! LOL! my favorite lately was in the movie Swordfish where they used AutoCAD ( a blueprint program ) to design a Virus!. I nearly fell outta my seat at the theater laughing my A*s off! My wife thought i had gone nuts ( so did some of the other patrons http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif ).
A virus is a program, AutoCAD does drawings. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

LOL...but would you recommend Swordfish otherwise? MANY of the action movies we like are FULL of credibility problems, but we still enjoy them for the most part. With "entertainment", we don't expect complete "reality." We saw Musketeer this weekend..and I was awed by some of the action sequences. Credibility?...not hardly!

Great action movie and I been a Halle fan ever since her Spike Lee days.
But hacking... Naw,It's not really a hacking movie like say "war games".
Sneakers is the most "real" and best hacking movie made so far IMHO. It's no Swordfish, but then Halle can't be everwhere. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

TRON was a good hacking movie, from the inside out. Bill Gates played the role of MCP I think. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Mind you I wouldnt mind practicising being a hacker if I was put under some of the pressure the way he was to come up with the goods. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
I liked Yoda's comment: "who worry's about hackers when we have Microsoft?"
I just about fell off my chair.
