An 80-conductor ribbon cable is used to connect IDE drives that support UDMA/33 and higher. Did you installed the new drive as a slave or on the second IDE channel? If the latter, and that channel doesn't have a 80-conductor cable, maybe you need to adjust the BIOS DMA setting for that channel.

I agree with Sleddog, make sure all the cables are seated properly.

Only the primary channel uses UDMA 66. The 80 Pin ribbon is for UDMA66 only. One of two or both is happening: The 80pin ribbon is gone, or, you have a device on the primary that does not support UDMA66 (this dosen't happen on all systems). Remove the device from the primary channel and you wont see it anymore. This error is nothing really. Just an annoyance really. However, on some systems is has been noted that this setup, i.e. non UDMA66 device on the primary IDE, will hinder overall drive performance for the UDMA66 device (C:\ typically). Hope this helps some. Oh, and tell me if I am right. This is a Celeron (i820) based system? Trying to gather some info about this as well.

thanks for the help guys. I think it is the Creative Labs CD-WR drive causing the problems. I actually have a P3 733 . I'll swap the cd burner over to my secondary IDE today. I was trying to get away from having the burner and the regualr cd-rom on the same ide cable.
thanks
