Hello,
I'm having trouble with my CDRW drive. When I installed the CDRW drive alone, It worked.
But when I connected my CD also,I could not get music to play or record.(soundcard works)
They are both MITSUMI.
They are both on 1 new cable connected to SECONDARY IDE on the Motherboard.(I have 2-Hard drives on Primary IDE)
I have the CDRW jumpers on MASTER
I have the CD jumpers set on SLAVE.
I'm having trouble acknowledging the CDRW as a recordable. I can see it
as a CD only.
It worked when it was alone, but I wanted the CD hooked up also.
I can load Programs off either one.
I can play Music on the CD only.
I've tried removing and reloading the drivers (also downloaded new ones).

I think that since they both ar Mitsumi, the drivers are conflicting, and not correct in my Autoexec.bat / Config.sys / or System.INI .Could someone please send me a copy of the correct way they should read.
Maybe I can see what its suppose to look like. Below are mine.

[AUTOEXEC.BAT]

SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T4
rem ---------------------- MTM ATAPI CD-ROM ----------------------
C:\MTM\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MTMIDE01 /MSCD001 /M:10
rem ---------------------- MTM ATAPI CD-ROM ----------------------
@C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\NORTON~1\NAVDX.EXE /Startup
SET
PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\HARDWARE\DRI VERS\NETMOU~1\DOS;%PATH%

[CONFIG.SYS]

rem ---------------------- MTM ATAPI CD-ROM ----------------------
[COMMON]
LASTDRIVE=M
DEVICE=C:\MTM\MTMCDAI.SYS /D:MTMIDE01 /P:1FO,14 /P:170,15
rem ---------------------- MTM ATAPI CD-ROM ----------------------

[SYSTEM INI]

rem ---------------------- MTM ATAPI CD-ROM ----------------------
DEVICE=C:\MTM\MTMCDAI.386
rem ---------------------- MTM ATAPI CD-ROM ----------------------

Thanks for any help.
JV

Playing CD audio directly requires the cable between the CD player and the sound card, so that's what that is.

Otherwise, it sounds like the two devices don't want to be on the same chain. Unusual since they are from the same manufacturer. Have you tried one as a slave on the primary?

I did not try connecting one on the primary IDE port, because I already have 2 hard disks connected there. (I really don't need any extra problems there). I checked the sound by changing the audio cable, I do get it to play music. Thanks.

I want to add that this is on a 200mhz cyrix/96mb sd-100 ram/ 586 TX Otto MB/ 24X CD/ 4X4X24 CDRW/ Running Win98 SE. I've reloaded drivers, after removing CD's from SYSTEM DEVICES. Removing all lines relating to, from Autoexec/command/Win INI. Then Re-Booting. I tried to Burn another disk but Adaptec Easy CD, said all OK. But the record time was too short. It said [Completed Successfully].
Hot Burn software has a CD test.Shows both my CD's as CD-Rom drives. Test OK. But, when check for CD Recordable, Finds None.

I really appreciate the HELP.
Looks like you stay busy.
Thank You
JV
