Cd Rom bizzarre

Ive been having problems with my cd rom last few weeks and today it really messed up. If I was using my Cd-rom for applications or games everyonce in a while the program would close and I would be shot back to the desktop.
Today it did the same playing The Sims but the CD-rom no longer works. It shows up in my computer and it finds the drive at bootup. But when i try and access it says drive isnt there? Any solutions???? Creative 48X rom. Thanks in advance

If you haven't changed anything recently then unfortunately, it is probably the drive itself that has gone bad. Have you recently changed anything, hardware or soft?

Did you try cleaning the CD-Rom drive?

Also for the heck of it check your ribbon cables to see if they are securely mounted

Look in Device Manager for any resource conflicts

Try different CDs

I had to replace it. I tried my cd rom out of my other pc and worked fine I guess it just gave up. I have never had any luck with creative products. But thanks for the replies
