I tried to change my video in the control panel. The hard drive crashed
now I have a Hard drive error 80. I can not install anything. the computer recognized the hard drive when I run the antivirus program. I will not boot up.

Please tell us more about your hardware, and what exactly you did in the control panel.

I changed the display settings to 1280 - 1024 pixels. The monitors picture was distorted. I formatted the hard drive and tried to reinstall windows.

Sounds like it was the monitor that was the culprit. If the screen looked distorted right after switching the resolution up to a higher setting then nothing was wrong with your OS or hard drive but instead the monitor was not able to support that resolution (problem with some 15 inch monitors and older monitors). If you wait 15 - 20 seconds after making the resolution change the it will revert back to a lower resolution (i.e. 800 X 600 or 640 X 480) and the screen should have returned to normal. As for the hard drive problem you may need to re-partition it if you have not already. When I tried to perform a clean install of windows I had to re-partition my primary drive or else I would get an error message.
