When trying to open PartitionMagic I get an error message 100 {partition table bad}. I have tried re-partitioning & formating and re-installing.I have run partition doctor to no avail. It seems that my ending cylinder is incorrect as reported by PartitionInfo.It is 663 should be 3735. I have tried to edit this with Partition Table Editor but am told the end cylinder value cannot be more than 1023. I have a Maxtor 30 gig 7200 r.p.m.. The system is running o.k but I am told it is not wise to run with a bad partition table. Currently I am waiting to partition the drive and like to use partition magic. System is an:

Athlon 700mhz
Abit KT7 raid
128 meg
maxtor 30gig

If this drive was in use previously, and working properly, it's possible the boot sector or partition table were overwritten by a virus. I would try running fdisk, and partition it that way instead of using Partition Magic. Also try the fdisk /mbr command, maybe rewriting the master boot record will help. Run that first.

I have run fdisk. Have not re-written the MBR but a virus is unlikely. This is a new computer and I believe I caused this problem using PQdrive-mapper incorrectly, remapping in the wrong order{starting w\D: and not K:}
I believe I need to edit the stubbourn partition table. I would rather not have to re-install{again}. Any suggestions?

fdisk /mbr is all I can think of. That will rewrite the master boot record, and might by accident fix it. Otherwise, I'm clueless.
